The PS3 sales started off strong, surprisingly strong. But many people questioned how long its sales streak would last. Well it last all through September. Selling well over 1 million units. And the holiday rush and blockbuster games haven't even released yet.

Sony announced this past week that they estimate worldwide sales of the new slimmer PlayStation 3 have increased beyond one million units. It was originally released on September 1 in North America, September 3 in Europe and Japan.

Wow. I mean...WOW. One million units sold in September, and that's before Uncharted 2 releases. I shudder to think what astronomical sales they'll get when GT5 and GOW3 hit...

    This is in September? DAMN.

If the PS3 Slim sold that well in this month alone, I bet they really rake in the money once the holidays roll around. Not to mention many anticipated games come out this winter.

It hasn't even been a month haha.

No wonder It was sold out so fast, that's amazing I guess It was the best thing ever for sony to reduce the price of their console.

I wouldn't say its surprising to have these numbers, but good to hear all the same.

Hmm . . . wondering if these numbers will increase, continue the same for some time, or lessen as time goes on.

Honestly I'm hoping they don't drop. I think I feel kinda sorry for Sony this gen and hope they sell more.

Well these numbers were consistent over a month. We were asking the same question when it raised its own sales by %999 during one week, and this is proof. Now I doubt it'll stay this high over the holidays, but I wouldn't expect them to drop off completely.

Alot of this is all down to advertising. I am not sure about other regions but in the UK we haven't been allowed to forget the PS3. PS3 adverts outnumber Xbox 360 and Wii adverts like 20:1, if Sony isnn't advertising what the system can do and it's price they are advertising games like Fifa 10, Need for Speed: Shift, WET and Uncharted 2. All I have seen from Xbox 360 is Halo: ODST and Wii as normal WiiSports: Resort. So far the UK market is being bombarded, there are adverts for PS3 on pretty much every bus in the nation, TV adverts and now the new 250GB SKU out in 2 days is just another weapon of mass distraction from what Microsoft and Nintendo are trying to achieve. Sony are on fire right now and these sales figures are no accident this was Sony's intention, sell enough units there are shortages.

Wow, you mean they're actually advertising?!

I haven't paid attention that much but I don't think they're doing that here too much. It's a little more than at the start of the gen (when they did just about NO advertising at all), but still . . . only place I see Playstation adverts are online.

Conversely, I see multiplatform games advertised on 360 all the time.

There are a lot of bus ads and IRL promotions. But TV spots are almost always 360.
