With anticipation on what features should be expected to Gears of War 3, now speculation is rising on whether or not it will even be released for this generation of consoles. Mike Capps addressed an audience at TGS '09 which states the games uncertainty.

The development of the successor to Gears of War 2 would be awesome to hear at TGS ‘09. However, Epic made a valid point how to work on the sequel on this generation of consoles would be best on the next generation console utilizing the Unreal Engine 4 still in development (how could they ever top the present generation?). Mike Capps, President of Epic Game Studios said while addressing an audience at this week’s Tokyo Game Show in a Q&A session, “If their were a next Gears of War, that will be for the next console generation, whenever that is. If someone knows, please tell me! That’s about four or five years away, I think.”

Wasn't Gears 3 announced in December last year and predicted for a November release of 2010? I thought it was Epic's official word on the release of the next Gears of War title.

Here's hoping. Microsoft doesn't need to lose an exclusive. I mean right now they are rehashing Halo constantly to fill the gaps that newer IP's should be filling. To lose Gears of War from the release calendar for upwards of 5 years, is not going to do them any good. Right now the only titles exclusively to get excited about are Alan Wake, Fable 3 and Crackdown 2, perhaps Halo:Reach but again that is yet another Halo cash in. Microsoft cannot survive on exclusive DLC as they seem to believe they can.

I mean not even Natal will have the desired effect, somehow I think they were hoping the Wii effect would happen where they would have exclusives simply because other consoles couldn't run the games, but Sony have changed that as they can run Natal games as they have the camera and yet they can also run Wii games as they have the physical controller. From my perspective plans seem to be falling apart for Microsoft at the moment.

Doesn't look that great to me. The first was awesome but this one from trailers and gameplay footage just seems like a really bad cover shooter with a deep story...

Didn't they claim that the trilogy would make the 360 console, though? Unless they pull a Halo and put it on the alleged Xbox 720, I'd rather they stick with their original plan...then again, it would help tempt people to pick up the next console.

Knowing Microsoft, it will be the "720".

but exactly when will the "720" come out?

Xbox is at it's peak right now, and knowing microsoft, it'll be a while before a new console is even announced (which in my opinion won't be announced until 2011)

No way would they wait that long for this.

I think it was supposed to be coming 2011, but now that they have Natal they seem to think that will keep us amused till 2013.

If they are smart, they will keep it till next gen and push out some new IPs instead. They have Splinte Cell: Convication, Mass Effect, and Alan Wake alone already lined up for next year. Add Fable 3 and Crackdown 2 to the mix and they are fine in the exclusive department.
