Taking inspiration from old-school Japanese action movie posters, the Japanese box-art for Uncharted 2 has finally been released and, well, it's certainly different!

It is no secret that Japanese and North American gamers have different tastes. As such, publishers and developers often need to cater their titles towards the region-specific audiences.

This usually includes changes to the box art when the game arrives from a different region. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves provides a prefect example. Here is the Japanese cover of the Playstation 3 exclusive game.

That looks cool. More like an adventure-style. The US Boxart has a more action thriller style to it, both are good though.

On one hand I like the old-school look they were going for, but on the other hand I hate the old-school look they were going for. XD

You can definitely see what they wanted, but it's even more obvious that they didn't quite get there. rofl

I read an article not too long ago talking about Box Art in different regions and why they go with different styles.

Apparently, America uses character centered box arts as here, they want there to be an iconic hero; perhaps one that people will identify with as a brand to carry on with sequals.

I think European centers on certain themes or settings, I forget which.

It's like a poster for a movie you just know will be terrible =|

Doesn't do the game justice at all.

I find it funny how westerners are trying to critisise eastern inspired design. The cover was made to appeal to the Japanese crowd not America or Europe, thats why we have our own and one we like.

I find it funny that you don't get that people know it's Eastern inspired, just done quite badly. It doesn't take a scientist to figure it out from the comments.
