Its no surprise that Dante's Inferno look a lot like God Of War, so many people started saying to compare the two games, some have gone out to call it a ripp-off. Jonathan Knight has spoken up about this and said that its actually a compliment to be compared to such a great game. He praises God Of War and thinks its good that his game can be just like it. Well, you weren't expecting that.

PTOM: "We don't mean to insinuate anything, but do you really not mind when people say your game is a lot like God of War?" To which Jonathan responded:

"We never get sick of hearing it because it's the greatest compliment we can be paid. We hope to be worthy of that. Those guys are at the top of their game and there's no question God of War III is going to be spectacular. I'll be the first in Line to get it. I hope those comparisons are being made because of our combat system and is just as responsive ~ the control over the character is very immediate, it's very fast-paced, you can branch out of moves very easily, you feel very powerful and overall is a very fun game to play," he said.

I think maybe he's taking it the wrong way on what people are trying to suggest to him by the game play of the game being too similar to, God of Wars game play :/

I was actually expecting this as behind the scenes these developers do talk to each other and are friends. I mean Evan Wells of Naughty Dog is close friends with Ted Price of Insomniac and both know Vince Zampella of Infinity Ward. Behind the scenes it is a vast web of friendship, I mean It would not surprise me if they all laugh at our expense. Us as gamers argue and debate over rips and taken ideas the developers themselves don't even care about. I mean at the end of the day Jonathan Knight of Visceral Games will most likely meet many people from Santa Monica (God of War) at each game event, they all have plenty of time to get to know each other and play each others games... Yes it's business but there is so much friendship and idea sharing behind the scenes these days, calling a game a rip-off is inciting that they stole the idea which these days they didn't.

Why fix something that isn't broken? Obviously GoW's game play brought a whole new level to the genre. Why wouldn't other devs want to emulate it? It works, and it works GREAT!

It's like watching your favorite basketball player do a cool dunk, or a BMX rider pulling off a neat trick.....you want to try and nail it just as good as they do!

Their biggest challenge will be going up against GoW 3. To that all I can say is, "GOOD LUCK!!!!" LMFAO

Yeah nice one. It shouldn't be taken as a compliment.

Yes it should. Where in the rulebook does it state one genre idea is tied to one specific game? If thats the case then whoever made the first Racing Game has the rights to sue every other "clone". What about the first, First Person Shooter? I guess every game with a first person view and a gun is instantly a rip of Wolfenstein 3D, iD Software should take Epic Games, Valve, Infinity Ward and Insomniac to court for plagiarism then.. Really it is a compliment for people to see Dante's Inferno and see God of War, it means that Visceral Games got it right. They made a Hack N' Slash game that shares the same visceral intensity and style of one of the best. Come on now, thats a compliment in my book.

I gotta agree with Daweii on this one, if you're new work is being compared to something that's a big success then you should take it as a compliment. Depending on how it's being compared that is.

i'm sorry but what the *bleep* is this.
this is video game business we're dealing with here, we're supposed to be arguing over everything and anonymously trashing each others games on official forums.

That's what we have you for Bandito.

In today's gaming industry innovation is becoming more and more rare, so it's usually more common (And better sometimes) to just improve on what's already proved to be successful.

This is no different than say a soccer player being touted to match the feats of a earlier generation superstar, and everyone usually finds it a complement when they say you could be the next *insert very successful name here*

It means whatever you're doing, your doing a good job of it. Course it's great to be the first to do something new as well. As well as bad sometimes, Like Mike Myers said in that awful movie of his; "I don't want to be the next Deepak Chopra, I'm going to be the first Guru Pitka!"

And we all know how that turned out
