After initially being refused classification in Australia for being too violent and gory, Left 4 Dead 2 has been approved for sale, albeit in a highly adjusted form.
Decapitation, dead bodies and lots of gore were been removed from the game to allow eligibility for an MA 15+ rating, the highest available to video games in Australia.
After yet another butchered version of a video game being released in Australia maybe the time is finally approaching for a review of game classification. A rethink on the necessity of a unanimous vote to change the legislation in the first place is obviously required after this latest incident and the outcry it has created.
The sequel to a popular video game has been modified so it can be sold in Australia.
Left 4 Dead 2 has been given an MA 15+ rating after it was refused classification in September.
According to the classification board report, the modified version removes considerable amounts of gore from gameplay.
“The board notes that the game no longer contains depictions of decapitation, dismemberment, wound detail or piles of dead bodies lying about the environment,” the report said.
“No wound detail is shown and the implicitly dead bodies and blood splatter disappear as they touch the ground.”
The report confirmed that melee weapons, such as “axes, crowbars and chainsaws” were still in the game.

So, it's a zombie apocalypse game. With no blood virtually. No trace of the zombies. And no dismemberment.
I'm assuming that when you shoot a zombie sunshine flies out and the axe is made of rubber.
