We all dread when a movie based on a video game is announced as they're usually awful and have terrible writing. But it looks like EA is making an effort to make the Dante's Inferno movie good as an Academy Award nominated writing has been hired for the project.

Now with the release of the game a few months away it looks like the film is starting to make some headway. Visceral Games has announced that Academy Award nominee Will Rokos will be writing the script for the film. Obviously most of you have no clue who the hell Will Rokos is but his Academy Award nom was for writing the drama “Monsters Ball” which as we know was the film Halle Berry won her Oscar for.

Well, the video game is based on the book anyway. You could just pretend like this movie isn't based on a game, but on a book instead.

Not if they base it off the book. That would be very good. And then you need a good cinematographer so you have memorable hell moments.

Saying the game is going to be based on the literary work Dante's Inferno is a real stretch IMHO. If you don't understand why, I can suggest Googling Dante's Inferno and read a few paragraphs of it.

At the most this game is going to have about 5% of the content derived from anything in the literary work. They just went the name 'Dante's Inferno' because it is immediately recognizable and they don't have to pay any copyright money to use it.

Y'know, I'm feeling that movie directors are just becoming incredibly lazy and unoriginal. It seems that every newly released game that has hype surrounding it automatically gets a movie version. And seeing as 90% of game-based movies end up sucking with poor scriptwriting, it makes me how thick the wool is that they're pulling over their eyes. Anyone in their right might would know game-based movies have almost never done well, so why do they continue endeavoring it?

Hollywood is completely bankrupt for ideas if they are looking to games for inspiration. I mean no offense to games -- some have great plots and writing -- but more like taking the plots from movies like Doom, where the dudes probably came up with the idea over a waffle one day, is sorta lame.
