Uncharted 2 Only took 18 Months To Make

Uncharted 1 took quite a while to make. We don't know the exact amount of time it took to develop, but we can assume it was pretty long as they had to develop the Naughty Dog Engine 2. Uncharted 2 is coming out a full two years after the first game, but the game was actually done in a little over a year and half. Naughty Dog are some hard workers, and the final product paid off.

Really we’re on kind of a break right now because we really killed ourselves on this one. I don’t think people quite realize that we’ve actually made this game in 18 months and that was a longer single-player experience, a feature length movie basically in terms of the cut scenes and all of the online features in multiplayer and the co-op. And we kind of look back and said: ‘how did we do that?’ We basically went into zombie mode and just killed ourselves to do it. And so everybody’s taking a lot of time off and just recharging the battery right now.

    Take notes, Polyphony and Squenix. You don't need to take five years just to put together a half-decent game.

      It might have taken Naughty Dog that long with the first Uncharted though, once the engine is established its much easier to make sequels.

        I suppose Squenix always remakes their engine, and GT5 needed a new engine as it's the first GT on PS3. But even so, the amount of time Poly and Enix take to make games can sometimes border on ridiculous.

    I remember (Qore's) Belmont and one of the developers talking about how they were finally able to schedule an interview because they were always so booked and busy, they sure as hell deserve the break.

    Amazing stuff. The game looks amazing, shows what gets done if you don't mess around for a few years. Just wow. Nice one Naughty Dog.

    Naughty Dog needs to Stop making Uncharted and get back to making Crash Bandicoots like they used to. Didn't another company aquire Crash Bandicoot?

    Meh, besides that, That's quite impressive that it took them 18 months. Every thing in the game looks stunning and moves fluidly. You'd think it would've taken them longer.
