Resistance 2 was an overall good game. But to the fans of the series felt that the game was somewhat of a failure. It could be from multiple reasons why gamers believe this, its been discussed many times on forums through out the internet. And now Insomniac has responded. Saying they are happy with the reviews for the game, but not happy about how fans felt about the game. And senior community manager James Stevenson said it was like a dog turning on them, and it quite hurt.

Hardcore Resistance fans believe PS3 exclusive first-person shooter Resistance 2 "was a failure", according to developer Insomniac.

That's the stark admission from senior community manager James Stevenson, who told VideoGamer.com in a wide-ranging interview that long term fan feedback "weighed" on him.

"Resistance 2 got better reviews than Resistance 1," said Stevenson. "But the long term fan feedback from that game weighed on me.

"The hardcore fans of Resistance 1 were maybe a little bit disappointed. Those folks consistently expressing that - especially GAF [NeoGAF] - it was like your dog turned on you," Stevenson explained.

I liked it too. though I wouldn't agree with the getting old part, I mean it had 3 different modes, each one with a lot of depth and almost a game in itself.

#1 Reason Resistance 2 failed was the fact that it became a carbon copy of Call of Duty 4.

True that. They changed all the games mechanics that made the game feel so natural to play and codified them. I also swear they took a step backwards graphics wise from r1 to r2, except for water which was a lot better.

R2 did not get better reviews than R1. R1 had a metascore of 88-89, and R2 had an 86.

You should probably rephrase that statement.

I'm actually so glad that Insomniac has acknowledged this. It means that they know something is wrong and, because they value their fans over what all the critics say, the Resistance franchise is going to be reverting to what people liked about it pre R2 - Resistance 3 wont alienate all the great features R:FoM had sprouted.

And, most of all I'm happy that they might go back to the bleak, hardcore gritty Resistance that I really loved back in 07' when I got my PS3. I do hope they put a chat system online though instead of their brain dead decision to remove it in R2. One more thing I disliked >.> Even if it is a nitpick, it was amazing to me.

Yup, Insomniac and a few other devs really have my respect because they seem to care more for their fans and the community than just the almighty buck!

I have to admit, I didn't like R2 as much as I liked R1. But I'm mostly in it for the story and not so much as the multiplayer which they seemed to focus more on in R2. When they added the different classes of players, it kinda damped the game for me. I don't know why . . . it just did.

It wasn't a failure. It was a step in the mright direction in some areas, a step back in others. Overall I played R2 more than RFOM, but that was only because of trophies. I did however find RFOM to be a better overall experience. The biggest gripe I had was with the weapons and the brightness of the areas. That was it. If it was darker and the weapons selection was similar to RFOM, I think I would have liked it better.

I thought the game, as a whole, was an excellent game and great addition to the franchise. My view might be a bit skewed, though, because I live in the Chicago area, so to be able to roam the broken and destroyed streets while still recognizing a bunch of landmarks brought the game to a whole new level of awesome for me.

I'm one of the R:FoM vets and I was pretty dissapointed in R2. ALL of my R1 clan mates were too.

To be honest I was disappointed with R:FoM.

    Fans > Reviewers

A score from some dude that does it for a living doesn't mean nearly as much as the opinions of the people who put down their hard earned cash for the game because of their love for the company/ franchise.

There's no way in hell I'd consider R2 an actual failure. *bleep*ing 60 player competitive modes and 8 player class-based co-op? That and the game had trophies whereas the first game didn't? Of course, I believe that the game slipped on things like the campaign, limited weapon variety, and the matchmaking.

Well said. In my opinion, the game is great and far from a failure, but it did go bad on some parts. Mostly to me, the campaign.

It's really a matter of people constantly blowing things out of proportion in order to prove their point. It's always either white or black, when it's usually in those shades of gray.

Personally I do not think either game has risen to the levels of polish and appeal that games like Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Uncharted did. Having said that, the first title held some interesting gameplay ideas, and kept the damn health bar. I thought Resistance 2 was actually quite enjoyable. But different. Different to Resistance 1. Interesting to me, that 2 games in the one series were both so appealing, in so many different ways. And with that said, I am torn as to how I would like the direction of Resistance 3 to go..

Kudos to Insomniac for acknowledging what the majority believe. I am all for a Resistance 3 with gameplay and functionality from the first. Or continuing the setups of the second.
