If the goal of the PS3 is to be a high-end system that not everyone can afford, then yes: sony has priced it just fine (but not a bargin)
I agree, just give the system some time, and it will skyrocket. I believe it will even pass the Wii sales at some point. Hopefully that will be soon. I am tempted to say it will drop if the sales do not increase
It doesn't have the right price to be a mass market video game console.
PS. Maybe this means Splinter Cell: Conviction will make its way to the Playstation 3 eventually
I was thinking that two. All I can think of is that they do have a game going to the PS3, or they just had a complete change of heart with the entire ordeal.
But I am not stupid, and I know for a parent out there looking to pay $600 for a system that they don't understand why its better than the 360 or Wii, it can seem like a silly purchase. Hell, why do you think I (the 16 year old kid) had to buy the Ps3 instead of having my mom buy it for me...she refused to pay the price
My only complaint against the PS3 is the same one I have against the 360. They have DirectX 9 hardware so when DirectX 10 is released, PC games are going to start being made for it. That means that the 360 and PS3 will both be obsolete overnight, making both of them a waste of money. I plan on buying a PS3, but only because some games I want will only be on it and not ported to Windows or Linux. To reiterate: the PS3's price is a great deal for the hardware that's in it. It's just going to be obsolete soon, along with the 360.
Finalblade98 was correct when he said it was a bargain considering how much it costs to produce. Sure, Sony gets its hardware at wholesale prices, but it won't offset the cost enough to keep it as cheap as the 360 or Wii.

But I feel like the guys who went out and got it for 600 bucks feel shafted if what ubisoft said was a good plan.
Sure just let all the hardcore gamers waste money on it then lower prices after all of them have petered out.
On to the matter at hand:
Correct me if I'm wrong, but what I got from that is you are saying the PS3 and 360 are the pinnacle of computer technology and the technology can't be improved upon. That's BS; and by that logic(which people have used in the past), my computer isn't as powerful as the PS1.
Oh, but it does. 1+1 does in fact equal 0 here.
Maybe you can wrap you mind around this easier, they will be archaic overnight, but obsolete soon after as far as the technology is concerned, the only exception being the Blu-Ray player. As far as the 360 is concerned, it won't be able to use DirectX 10 features. You won't even be able to download it and install it. The only hardware compatible with Direct3D 10 is the NVIDIA GeForce 8 Series they just released and the ATI Radeon HD 2000 Series, which they also just released. The 360 is stuck the way it is, it will never improve with the times. It's hardware just won't allow the advances that have already been made.
Some companies are even shafting the 360 by only putting some of their games on the PC for this very reason: Link
It's not that the machine lacks all the necessary power, it just can't interpret the data like it's meant to.
You see? It can run on the consoles, but they have to scale the games back a bit. It's like running Oblivion on a computer with a single-core processor, a GeForce 6600, and 512Mb of RAM. It's possible, but the cool stuff that makes it unique have to go before you can do it.
As far as people not being able to afford computers to run the stuff goes, I compared the price of a customized Dell Optiplex on their website to one I "built" by finding comparable hardware on Newegg. They ended up having the same processors, the same amount of RAM, the same GPUs, etc. But the Dell cost about $1,000 USD more. By building a computer, which only requires that you be able to follow instructions written for somebody with the IQ of "dumbass,"(i.e: Place this here, fasten this here, etc. with full color pictures as well as extensive text explanations.) will save an assload of money. In addition, when the stuff they have is obsolete or at least overly archaic, they can cheaply replace the component in question rather than buy a whole new system.
I currently have plans to get 2 Radeon HD 2900s in CrossFire, 2 more gigs of RAM(I already have 2), Vista when Service Pack 1 is released, and I might replace my processor, I'm not sure about that yet. After doing so, the PS3 wouldn't stand a chance in hell against my system. And with overclocking options and the ability to modify games' .ini files, I can simultaneously increase graphics quality drastically while cutting down strain on my hardware.
