Nintendo's CEO Satoru Iwata recently announced at a press conference that the Nintendo Wii has lost momentum and, despite a price drop, will take a while to recover. He also admitted that the company is "unable to continually release strong software, and let the nice mood cool".

Mainichi Shimbun reports that Iwata, speaking at a press conference in Osaka today, said "Wii has stalled. We were unable to continually release strong software, and let the nice mood cool."

Sankei Shimbun, covering the same press conference, reported Iwata as having said "We were unable to show a new game to become 'the next thing.' In the game market, once you've lost the momentum, it takes time to recover."

What? Nintendo admits the Wii never had anything going for it? I must have been away when that news spread through the Internet.

What a load of *bleep*. There are so many games that are and could come out for the Wii that would keep flattening the opposition. Its just their way of saying,'We're too lazy to bring you top notch games so we'll give you My Little Pony instead.'

Name some, because I'm fairly positive most people aren't aware of them, either through ignorance or lack of interest.

Pretty sure i could count them with 3 of my fingers: Mario, Zelda, Metroid.

Thats all Nintendo has. Even those games can't "Keep flattening the opposition" thats laughable.

You don't need to continuously release strong software, Nintendo. Once in a while will do.

When Nintendo's CEO publicly admits there's a problem as big as this, there really is a problem. It's funny, he's admitting what we all knew would happen - that the Wii's novelty would wear off, and people would realize all the games coming out are just motion-based crap.

By strong software I'm guessing Nintendo are referring to titles like Wii Fit and Wii Music.

Hmmmm, so why don't you use this time to release your other titles. You know, stuff like Star Fox, F-Zero, Pilotwings, Kid Icarus, etc. All those titles that apparently have less priority than Mario, Zelda, and Metroid.

Those are all titles that would make massive sales on the Wii if they were properly thought through a developed well.

Doubt it.. I mean thats the whole issue. There are like 55 million Wii owners and 47 million of them own WiiSports and thats all they are buying. You may consider yourself a more "hardcore" Wii owner but you are the miniscule minority, it's why your hardcore games sell so poorly. You said earlier Wii games flattening the opposition the only consoles with games flattening the opposition on a weekly/monthly basis is the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. The Wii has a lot of consoles out there but the software buy rate is lower than every platform on the market to date.

Not in Japan thats why it's 47 million and not 55 million.. The Japanese are stupid enough to buy the game well actually they aren't as not many copies are sold in Japan haha.

Wii Fit and Wii Music are both really fun games to play and get a few mates around and you can have a right laugh.
