Japanese magazine Shounen Jump recently revealed that Final Fantasy XIII will not have a levelling system. It's replacement will be the Crystalium System. Go to the source for the full info.

Leveling up is so 1990s - and with Final Fantasy XIII striving to be as modern as RPGs come, Lightning and co are to ditch the old leveling mechanic in favor of a new system, revealed in Japanese magazines earlier this week. Here's our detailed explanation about just what this means for Square's upcoming blockbuster.

Could be good, could be bad. We'll just have to wait and see.

The 'job' roles in the Optima System still have levels, just not your characters.

Hmm, i see what it means, so it's basically like playing through FF in the old days, were you choose what classes you want in your team, mainly related to FFV and FF1/2, so basically it's saying you can make a Fighter, White Mage, Black Mage etc.

Quite interesting, though i don't like how they've completely got rid of MP after it being in the game constantly since the first final fantasy.

The Sphere Grid was alright. I liked having the option to customize your character to your liking. But we'll see what this one's like. As of now I don't plan on getting the game, but I have a feeling someday down the road I will.

I didn't like the sphere grid, conventional leveling up was way better

agreed. sphere grid was dumb and its not really different than leveling up other than you dont get a level number. everything else is still the same, HP and MP go up, you unlock new skills, etc.

the FFX sphere grid was nothing new and neither is this.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who disliked the Sphere Grid. Alot of fans seemed to love being able to customize the characters, but I just found the whole 'get spheres to gain abilities' thing annoying.

Conventional levelling was just easier. Lately Squeenix seem to be trying too hard to make the levelling systems in FF new and fresh, but they just end up being more complicated than they need to be :/

Paper Mario remains best RPG evurr
I just had to point that out.
But idk about sphere grids, they were ok, but whatver lets me customize my character more extensively is better on me.

No dude. I love Paper Mario. IDK why, Super Mario RPG just bored me. Paper MArio had some cool dialouge. And very memorable Music. Heck, all my BRSTM files For SSBB are Paper Mario.
