Analyst Michael Patcher believes New Super Mario Bros. Wii's sales will "shock" and Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto is confident that the game will sell for years. But was does Nintendo of America's President Reggie Fils-Aime think?
In a recent interview with Gametrailers, Reggie said that, despite being a big fan of the Call of Duty series, he believes New Super Mario Bros. Wii will "unequivocally" sell more than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on one particular platform.

Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO of Nintendo of America, offered his own thoughts about Mario Bros. Wii’s sales on the latest episode of GameTrailers TV and said that it will outperform Modern Warfare 2 on one system by the time the January 2010 NPD data rolls by. We’ll be posting the full quote from Reggie shortly.

HAHAHAHA!!! Reggie you *bleep*ing retard. I mean look at this way, you are selling this game on a platform with the lowest software inception rate of any console in recent memory. You have an issue with people not buying your games, they have WiiSports cause it came with the system, WiiSports Resort the sequel hasn't done half as well because people have to buy it.. Surprise surprise.

Super Mario Bros. Wii might sell a few million but Call of Duty is a franchise that has sold more copies than any game this gen without being bundled. Call of Duty 4 had a pretty slow launch at 2.7 million in it's first month, it has now sold 14 million units, Call of Duty: World at War by the less popular Treyarch has now gone on to sell 14 million units. 28 million units sold in just over 2 years and right now the way Modern Warfare 2 is going it wouldn't surprise me if it sells 10 million+ on launch day as this game is *bleep*ing huge.

Put it this way I don't work in a games store I don't see this everyday but yesterday I saw well over 20 people lining up all to do the same thing and that is pre-order Modern Warfare 2, the pre-order name sheet the store had was taking up like 3 pages it's massive.. Reggie just be happy with the over par 1-2 million you will get and stop aiming for the big boys.

Exactly. Even with all the negativity surrounding the changes for the new Modern Warfare, the game will sell by the masses. It's like with Left 4 Dead 2, there's a good list of complaints, even was a good 40,000 in a boycott group on Steam, and yet there's four times the pre-order rate than the first game. Those that don't get MW2 now at least have it on their X-Mas lists. And...it's not just on one console, but several, as well as on PC.

Well sure there's more Wii's in households, but do the math properly, Reggie. Nothing against the new SMB, I'll be picking up that game for sure, but be real.

I think Reggie's smug facial expression would have suited this article much more than the game's cover art.

I can't believe I posted a Reggie article without using "the picture". If it's any consolation...

    Wow . . .
You know what, I think I understand what he's saying! Just about EVERYONE loves mario or loved mario at some point. (JUST ABOUT! Not everyone!)

So with this being chalked full of nostalgia, I believe this game will sell a LOT. And I bet hundreds or even thousands will buy it just for the sake of what it is, without even playing it but once or twice at the most!

I think Call of Duty is so damn overrated and pretty lame, but I think I'd take that game over New Super Mario Bros. Wii any day. Haha.

Not sure if it's still considered overrated what with all the recent buzz about their latest game, Modern Warfare 2.

It is to me, personally . . . I honestly haven't any desire to play the game.

Same here. Seems like another generic FPS to me. Yes one with a bit more depth than most but still nothing out of the ordinary.

If he wanted to write an article about Mario outselling another game, he should have picked a different series to go against. What a deluded moron.

    Insanity Prevails* Nov 6, 09
A bold boast that could easily come back and bite him in the ass. Even if he is only counting MW2 sales on one console, the series is huge.

I thought stupid statements about the competition was a Microsoft & Sony thing...

Edit: He said for ONE platform, right? Maybe it'll outsell MW2 on PC.

I'm really starting to like you Reggie. It will be a close one for sure and both game will be good. However I still think that MW2 won't be much different from MW.

      Daweii Nov 6, 09
Close one? Are you mad.. Modern Warfare was and still is the highest selling FPS of all time, Modern Warfare 2 is shaping up to beat even it's predecessor. Mario is big but not big enough to be any kind of close match to Call of Duty not these days. If Mario Galaxy is anything to go on this new Mario might sell around the 8 million mark over the course of a year like Galaxy did but it won't hit MW2 numbers.
