Analyst Michael Patcher believes New Super Mario Bros. Wii's sales will "shock" and Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto is confident that the game will sell for years. But was does Nintendo of America's President Reggie Fils-Aime think?
In a recent interview with Gametrailers, Reggie said that, despite being a big fan of the Call of Duty series, he believes New Super Mario Bros. Wii will "unequivocally" sell more than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on one particular platform.
Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO of Nintendo of America, offered his own thoughts about Mario Bros. Wii’s sales on the latest episode of GameTrailers TV and said that it will outperform Modern Warfare 2 on one system by the time the January 2010 NPD data rolls by. We’ll be posting the full quote from Reggie shortly.

Super Mario Bros. Wii might sell a few million but Call of Duty is a franchise that has sold more copies than any game this gen without being bundled. Call of Duty 4 had a pretty slow launch at 2.7 million in it's first month, it has now sold 14 million units, Call of Duty: World at War by the less popular Treyarch has now gone on to sell 14 million units. 28 million units sold in just over 2 years and right now the way Modern Warfare 2 is going it wouldn't surprise me if it sells 10 million+ on launch day as this game is *bleep*ing huge.
Put it this way I don't work in a games store I don't see this everyday but yesterday I saw well over 20 people lining up all to do the same thing and that is pre-order Modern Warfare 2, the pre-order name sheet the store had was taking up like 3 pages it's massive.. Reggie just be happy with the over par 1-2 million you will get and stop aiming for the big boys.
Well sure there's more Wii's in households, but do the math properly, Reggie. Nothing against the new SMB, I'll be picking up that game for sure, but be real.
Damn........Well said
You know what, I think I understand what he's saying! Just about EVERYONE loves mario or loved mario at some point. (JUST ABOUT! Not everyone!)
So with this being chalked full of nostalgia, I believe this game will sell a LOT. And I bet hundreds or even thousands will buy it just for the sake of what it is, without even playing it but once or twice at the most!
Edit: He said for ONE platform, right? Maybe it'll outsell MW2 on PC.
