Some of major online retailers such as Direct2Drive, Impulse and Gamersgate refuse to sell recent Activision's shooter Modern Warfare 2. It's not because of latest disappointments, including lack of dedicated servers, console commands and multiplayer limitations. The reason is Steam and their 'Trojan Horse' - Steamworks.

Major online retailer Direct2Drive have announced today that the year's biggest game - Modern Warfare 2 - won't be made available on their PC digital delivery service. Why? Because of rival platform Steam, of course!

Activision's shooter includes mandatory installation of Valve's Steamworks, which the game uses for stuff like installation, DRM and save-game management. Something Direct2Drive (which is owned by website IGN) are having none of, telling us "We don't believe games should force the user to install a Trojan Horse". That "Trojan Horse" being the inclusion of Steam's commercial marketplace.

I haven't bought a PC game in years, but I know of these companies.

About the news itself.... no biggie to Activision, I'd say. It doesn't look like they care much about PC gamers.

A lot of the recent IW/Activision hate towards the PC version with lack of features most likely comes down to piracy. Why are they going to give the PC gamers a superior version when many will just download it for free. I wonder what IW/Activision are going to do in light of the massive Xbox 360 piracy issue as the 360 has essentially become as bad as the PC for piracy.
