Take-Two has officially delayed their highly controversial game, Manhunt 2. Originally set for a July 10th release, this date has been suspended while Rockstar and Take-Two consider their course of action in regards to Manhunt 2's ban in the UK and its AO rating from ESRB.

The inevitable has happened: Take-Two just issued a statement explaining the upcoming release of the currently AO-rated Manhunt 2 has been officially suspended. Originally scheduled for a July 10 release, Take-Two is reviewing its options following the UK ban earlier this week and the death sentence cast down by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board.

"We continue to stand behind this ordinary game," the publisher said in a statement, according to Reuters. "We believe in freedom of creative expression, as well as responsible marketing, both of which are essential to our business of making great entertainment."

Not only will major retailers such as Wal-Mart refuse to carry an AO-rated game, Nintendo and Sony have said they will not allow such a game to be manufactured for their consoles.

No surprise really. I mean Rockstar needs to decide what they are gonna do since Manhunt 2 is banned in the UK, banned in Australia, and the United States might be banning the game soon. Also Sony and Nintendo won't allow the game to come out on their consoles if it has an adult only rating. It's really a shame that Manhunt 2 is getting banned and received the adult only rating. I was looking forward to this game. I guess Rockstar is gonna have to water Manhunt 2 down now until they can receive a Mature rating.

It can't get banned in the US, it would break an ammendment of the constitution (not being American I wouldn't know which one).

I hope that an appeal works instead of having to water the game down. If I was Rockstar I would sell the game over the internet, all this attention for the game and the fact if it was released in stores it would be hard to get makes this game potentially a huge hit provided the games can get distributed. Sell it over the internet and it's available world wide, simple.

It is the first amendment, by the way.

If their appeal fails, Rockstar's only console option is to tone it down. They cannot produce the game for a Sony or Nintendo platform with an AO rating. They could still release it on PC, but I doubt it will sell as well.

Pretty obvious after all it's been through and such. I hope it isn't delayed that long.

I saw the delay coming right after it got that AO rating. if they are going to release it then they would definately need to get that rating down.

I was looking forward to this too. While of course I haven't played the game, what is the difference between something like this being released and the release of a movie such as Hostel?
