Fans of SNES RPGs and even those years before sometimes complain about the missing "feeling" today these games had, particularly from companies like Square Enix. Seems like that will change some, as creators of the classic Lufia & The Fortress of Doom game (now under Taito) are working on a sequel for the classic RPG series, known as Estopolis in Japan. The new Lufia will be published by Square Enix, who own Taito.

Platform and release date will be announced in the next issue of Famitsu (due out November 19), but, funnily enough, we're guessing DS judging by the dimensions of the screenshot here, and the fact the handheld seems to be a hub for classic-style console RPGs.

    This is awesome news!

I loved the other Lufia games. And Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals was the first featured game in the Classic Gamer's Society.

I can't wait to see what comes of this! ;D

Yessir. I hope it's great -- I miss the era of sweet SNES RPGs. Maybe we'll get a bit of it back with this. I'll definitely pick it up if so.

Yes - I know what you mean. The Super Nintendo era and the Playstation era had the best RPGs. It kind of went downhill once the Playstation 2 was released as developers tended to focus more on graphics, than story telling. =[
