In Japan, Level 5 have announced their next installment in the Professor Layton series. The game, titled Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracles, sees Layton off to a casino/amusement park city to investigate the mystery behind a mask that grants wishes. The game is currently scheduled for a 2010 Japanese release.
Professor Layton and the Devil’s Flute kicks off a new Layton trilogy when it comes out this week. This arc takes place before Professor Layton and the Curious Village and explores how Layton met his protégé.
Next year, Level 5 has Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracles on their schedule. This game takes place in a casino city called Montedoll where Layton investigates a wish granting mask. Level 5 didn’t share any gameplay details so you’ll have to imagine Layton solving brainteasers, given to him by clowns, in a carnival.
Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracles is slated for fall 2010. Since we’re still waiting for the finale to the first trilogy I wouldn’t count on a domestic release of Mask of Miracles anytime soon.
