Writer Barbara Meltz for the Boston Globe discusses how the Wii takes violence in video games to an extreme level. Meltz says that the Wii makes violent games more violent with the motion control provided by the system. Meltz quotes people that are on both sides of the issue. Those against violence on the Wii provide the same argument that it will make children into killers (although they shouldn't have violent games to begin with). One person says the Wii alone will not turn a person into a killer, it only occurs when combined with other factors such as abuse at home or preexisting mental illness.

Child advocates such as the Boston-based Campaign for a Commercial - Free Childhood say violent games such as Manhunt 2 should be kept out of teenagers' hands. "The level of participation makes the game worse than any that preceded it. It might not make anyone a killer, but could it make someone prone to domestic violence or child abuse?"

"Wii provides a double whammy," Rich says, "very violent content and physical involvement, which we know is how learning happens."

Is Manhunt actually being released on the Wii?

Anyway, that is a tad disturbing, if so; one of the main points brought up in the arguement about the difference between TV and game violence is how close it gets you to the action, and this is a whole other level.

This is the biggest load of BS I have ever heard. People who say that serial killers are caused by video games have no idea what they're talking about.

Games can't create a serial killer from nothing, but they can help create and form a culture with various ideals and attitudes towards such things as violence.

Thats bullshit!... I have been playing violent games since before there was even a games rating board, i am perfectly fine and my hundreds upon hundreds of friends are perfectly fine, if you look through history most serial killers or just killers have some form of mental depravity that causes them to act differently to everyday things let alone video games, to none *bleep*ed people video games violent or none violent it is just entertainment.

This is funny, because if you read the full article they go on to state that according to research juvenile crime rate and school homicides have gone down since violent video games proliferated.

NFLSMC is right. Don't let people like Jack Thompson fool us by things like this.

wow. they need to learn that if kids are going around killing other people, its not because of the game. the game could have triggered something like a memory of abuse or because they might be mentally ill. killing games dont turn you into a killer.

Well this is pretty stupid I think. So adults just will never understand video games it seems. If they want to make assumptions maybe at first attempt to play video games.

"The Wii technology isn't as bad as some folks say or as good as Nintendo wants you to believe."

This is the bind for Nintendo isn't it? Now that the Wii technology has a chance to settle into the mainstream, people are actually buying into the Wii's propanganda of changing the way people play games. But once we get to the violent games, the warning flares start blazing again and the motion sensing controls could all of a sudden be a new weapon against the Wii. Nintendo will want to be careful about how it handles this.

Im not saying that its bad but i can understand what there talking about. The motion senor thing puts you in action and what it may seem that your teaching you how to wield weapons. There is alot of weapons that it doesn't teach you how to use. But i mean if there talking about Knives, anything sharp like that doesn't show you how to wield it. I pretty sure anyone will know how to use it given the circumstances.
But all in all This article is a Bunch of BS. Its probably JT or Hillary spreading there BS upon everyone.

Moronic sums this up quite well. I don't recall anyone complaining about the use of a gun to play duck hunt.
