It might be a bit surprising to learn that Atlus' upcoming Shin Megami Tensei game has been given an M rating by the ESRB. That's quite a step up from Devil Survivor which only received a T. This makes Strange Journey the 10th DS game to be given the rating.

Less than one percent of all Nintendo DS games have are rated M by the ESRB and Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey is one of them. Strange Journey is the 10th M-rated DS game out of 1,366 rated titles. Compare that to 262 out of 1,940 PlayStation 2 games, roughly 13.5%.

Releasing a M-rated DS game is risky business. That plan didn’t work out so well for Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. Good to know that Atlus didn’t tone Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey down just to get a more common (and parent friendly) T-rating.
