Electronic Theatre reports on details revealed in an interview with Akitoshi Kawazu and Toshiyuki Rahans of Square Enix, confirming that a Final Fantasy VII remake has been green-lit by Square Enix, but is still in its very early stages.
Last month, in support of the upcoming release of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers exclusively on Wii, Akitoshi Kawazu and Toshiyuki Rahans (producer and director of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers respectively) were interviewed at Square Enix in Paris by French Final Fantasy fansites. After some time discussing Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers and earlier titles in the bloodline series, Kawazu and Rahans were questioned about the possibility of a Final Fantasy VII remake.

Of course they'll do that once they do FF13 Versus, then that other FF game, then they'll need to do a spin-off then maybe a another prequel-sequel to KH as the story can't get any more complicated then they'll focus on their other titles for awhile to "please" their fans.
Expect a teaser trailer in 2028 and then wait 4-5 years for a release date which will probably be another 3-4 years off.
I don't know about everyone else, but I'd be happy with a DS remake.
They could make the characters look a little more realistic (as realistic as the DS can make them),then can add voice-overs (which would be great),and add Wi-fi chocobo races and battles in the golden saucer.
Cuz the Chobis in FFXIII are ugly as sin
Do it for IX too. In fact, do that one first.
I know a hell of a lot of people who would get this (myself included), would probably sell better than FFXII lol.
but a man can dream......
And regardless of any decision, there's the "They changed it, it sucks" group that exists in every opinion of remakes.
It needs to be a PS3 exclusive, just because of the weight the VII franchise holds. You'd have a lot of upset fans if it went multi.
But seriously, they want to bring the experience to other gamers. Remember how you stared in impotent rage as Sephiroth murdered Aeris? Remember how elated you were after FINALLY getting that damn Gold Chocobo? Stop being system fanboys and realize that everyone can enjoy these games. In fact, everyone DESERVES to enjoy these games.
FFVII IF it get's remade will be on both 360 AND PS3. Two reasons:
1: Money
2: Alot of people who had a PS1 and FFVII now have a 360.
Source?
And speaking for the FF community on Neoseeker, most want if not already own a PS3. For myself, I thought FFXIII would have only been for the PS3, so I made sure I picked the console up some two+ years ago. I also got it for Metal Gear Solid 4 and some other titles, but FFXIII was a primary reason, and I'm sure other FF fans did the same. The PS1/PS2 era had some superb RPGs, and we followed into the PS3 era hoping for the same.
Only reason it's on the PSN and not XBL as a classic is the same reason you don't see XB classics on PSN and vice versa. Their old Playstation games therefore they go to PSN.
FFXIII was only made multiplatform because the PS3 hasn't sold enough units to make it profitable, but considering the timespan, that might just change. If it does, the chances of multiplatformity would decrease.
That said, it should be too hard to remake (relatively speaking). The plot's there, the character's are there, the dialogue is there. It's basically just the artwork + voicing.
I wonder what the combat system will be though? ATB as FFVII was? Or go down the XII(I) route and allow open fighting? Which would mean reinventing the map.
