Sony has revealed details for the new system update for the PS3. The new update will allow ps3 users to play PSP mini's on the PS3. It will also you to transfer your save data from one PS3 to another.

We launched minis for PSP back in October but from the 17th December you will be able to enjoy these bite size games on your PS3 as well as your PSP. This firmware update allows the minis emulator to work on PS3 and we are working on getting the majority of the current minis ready for the PS3 from the 17th December.

This feature enables you to easily transfer all of your saved data from one PS3 to another. So if you decide to get a new PS3 you can make sure you don’t loose any of your existing content. Content such as games, game save data, and videos downloaded from PlayStation Network can be transferred to the new PS3 system and deleted from the current PS3. Other content, including personal media files (photos, music, videos), can be copied onto the new PS3 and remain on the current PS3 system.

The data transfer system seems rather pointless. Surely, it's simpler to just copy the save data to a pen drive.

Yes, but apparently this also supports transfer of games, videos, etc downloaded from the PSN store. I'd also imagine that saves which are copy-protected can be transferred using this, something which isn't possible with a pen drive.

I wonder if this will be able to be done remotely. For people who's PS3 have shit the bed and can't turn back on...doubt it. But it'd be awesome.

Yeah, I wondered the same thing if you could do it with broken PS3s. That'd be good, via PSP remote play or something :S

Yeah but does remote play work on a broken PS3 that can't be turned on? If so, never knew that, that's awesome! If not . . . well I doubt they'll be able to be done remotely any other way either

Which, is why I always tell people to backup their stuff regularly. I just need to take my own advice now too

Now wait, it said transferred, then DELETED from the PS3. This makes me wonder if it automatically deletes the information and stuff from the one PS3 after it's transferred. . . I could see that preventing game-sharing and cheating and all that stuff, but seriously I would never use it if that be the case. Unless I'm going to stop using that first PS3 for gaming.

There's also the question of what happens to the second PS3. Does it just cram it in with the other person's stuff? Does it clean it out before inserting the other PS3's data?

      Still could be useful

I want an update that lets us play PSP games ON the PS3, since we can DL full versions on there.
