Sony Reveals Plans to Win Christmas Battle

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has hit back on the criticism On the PS3 suffering saying that it is unfair to compare both the Wii and PS3 when "The Wii is a sub £200 console and does one thing pretty well. Compare that with a £400 piece of hardware that plays next-generation games, allows users to access photo files and has built-in blu-ray technology". Interesting statement by Sony.

It also says Sony has a big plan during Christmas, which should make a huge impact on the sales market.

It seems its a combination of the PSP and PS3. It should turn out to be quite good for sony fans.
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has hit back at criticism that its PlayStation 3 (PS3) console is suffering from sliding sales and revealed it is harbouring treats for gamers up its corporate sleeve to conqure the all-important Christmas market.

Nintendo’s Wii console is currently riding the crest of a wave in terms of market share, leaving both Sony and Microsoft in its wake. But Jonathan Fargher, SCEE representative, said it was wrong to pit the Wii and PS3 against each other.

“The one thing we have always done with the PlayStation is stick to our business strategy,” he said. “We keep an eye on the competition, but it is unfair to put the Nintendo Wii and PS3 in the same category. The Wii is a sub-£200 console and does one thing pretty well. Compare that with a £400 piece of hardware that plays next-generation games, allows users to access photo files and has built-in Blu-Ray technology.

“Many people have said PS3 is not doing well, but in nine weeks we have sold more than one million machines in Europe, which is faster than the sell-through rate of the PS2. The PS1 and PS2 sold 115 million machines worldwide, so we are confident of the PS3’s performance in time,” he added.

You Sony fanboy, posting things like you know for a fact that the PS3 supposedly is going to beat the Wii and X360 this Christmas, when, the fact is, you don't. Anyway, the competition is between the X360 and PS3, its always been a Sony-Microsft brawl since the dawn of the Xbox in 2002.

Try knowing someone b4 calling some one a fanboy. And define fanboy since you obviously have no idea what it means.

Christmas could be a huge boost to sales for Sony if they play it right. Jonathan is right about not comparing the Wii and PS3 as well, there too different to do it accurately

I wonder how it'd going on that production end for Sony. . . is it still that expensive to make each unit? Can they affort a price drop? Or would they just be losing even more cash per console.?

Hmm... well... I think that they are charging way too much so maybe both the wii and the PS3 might eventually crash, with a bang!

So, Wii is lame because it focuses on fun, innovative gaming instead, but the PS3 is great because it can play Bluerays and PS1 games with prettier graphics?

Yeah, I see why Sony's marketing scheme is eating up the competition this gen.

No, the Wii is lame because its lame. The PS3 is great because its a real next-gen system. Fanboyism is fun isn't it?

And who says you can't play motion sensor games with the PS3? Sony could just as well invent their own motion sensor controllers and easily have developers port Wii games to the PS3 with Better graphics

And since when did PSP get involved with this article. Last time I checked it was just PS3.

Oh and last time I checked. The DS was blowing the PSP away in sales and games.

I love how Sony executives and fans explain PS3 and PSP's utter failure so far by insulting Nintendo's systems. It is one of the few things that both confuses me and makes me laugh.

SOME fans and I do remember seeing an article here where Sony actually congratulated Nintendo on their success.

And the PS3/PSP are NOT failures, a failure is a system that cannot please the consumer at all so I ,for one, do not regret shelling out half a grand for it.

Of course, what fanboys always do is that they start comparing it to one another and the ego bullshit sets in, no console is a failure because they have all been able to please the user one way or another.

Actually, I said that PS3 and PSP are failing "so far". I am sure after a price drop and the release of some good games, PS3 sales will pick up. Also, I was talking about more of an economic failure than insulting the system itself.

I was making a very broad generalization in an attempt to be funny while I got my point across. In more specific terms, Many articles, even if they begin by congratulating the Wii's commercial success, go on to doubt its staying power, comment on the graphical inferiority, or complain that it is one dimensional.

I'll wait until Christmas to judge whether or not the Sony systems have/will pick up. They might have a plan, but whether it works, or not, is a totally different story.
