Namco confirms online play for Soul Calibur IV

mistermostyn | June 26, 2007 | News | Playstation 3 Wii
GamerSquad reports that the director of upcoming brawler Soul Calibur IV has confirmed that the game will have online gameplay for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. No word on whether the separate Wii version will also come with online functionality.
What's changed this time round is that the next-gen platforms have network infrastructure already in place," commented Soul Calibur IV's director Katsutoshi Sasaki while chatting with EGM magazine."We've heard from fans that they really want the game to be online, so we figured that, with the current environment, we really couldn't make SC4 without online play."

Guess it's not surprising since they announced the same for Tekken but I wonder what kind of effect lag will have on the game play since it's a lot about timing.

There is no seperate version of Soul Calibur IV for the Wii. It's getting a SC adventure game, not a fighting game.

Soul Calibur is a game that could really benefit from online play. There is little cause of lag and they could really flesh out the online mode if they put in the effort. They can make it more than a simple 1-on-1 fight. Oh, and Goyun SSJ15, just so you know, the XBox 360 is also getting the same thing.

This is awesome. I don't think lag will be too big a problem, considering there's not really a lot of data that needs to be sent to and fro. Resistance online for me at least is lag-free; hopefully it's the same for SC.

I doubt there will be lag, if Resistance can have 40 people on a map lag free and Warhawk can have 32 people all in vehicles on a massive map, then 2 people in a enclosed arena should be fine
