2009 was the year of the PS3, according to Metacritic's first annual "Game Platform Power Rankings". The site combined the review scores of every title on every platform to come up with the best games of 2009, and the platform with the highest amount of quality titles for the year. Go to the source for the results.

The Power Rankings combine a variety of factors — all involving the quality and quantity of titles released during the year — to rank the six major gaming platforms. Although Xbox 360 finished with the highest number of positively-reviewed titles (88 games receiving a Metascore of 75 or higher), and though Nintendo’s Wii had the largest total number of releases (a whopping 362, or almost one per day), the PS3 console showed the best overall game quality for the year. Among other factors, five of the 10 highest-scoring games in 2009 (for any platform) were PS3 titles, including the year’s top game: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

    Interesting.

A couple of them were multi platform too. Weren't those normally favoring the 360 in previous years?

Where's that article with someone saying at the start of this year that the PS3 would come out on top? I can't seem to find it...

Someone said it was bull and pulled it down perhaps? This is a very pleasant (and comfortable) victory for PS3 users. We bided our time, took the scathing fanboy hate, now it's our turn. (Hey if Xbots can't take it, they shouldn't have dished it out)

While I may agree, I still think the whole concept of the console war is quite ridiculous. If I enjoy the games I buy, I don't give a flying flip what number it's been attributed one some website.
