Lumines Sales Jump 5900% on Amazon Due To PSP Exploit

Ameer | June 26, 2007 | News | Playstation Portable
A PSP exploit, which can be used to install custom firmware and run homebrew, has been found within Lumines, one of the PSP's launch titles. Due to this find, Amazon sales for the title have risen by 5900% to jump to 10th best selling current game.
You may have already heard about the latest PSP exploit discovered within the classic puzzler Lumines, availing owners of any variety of PSP -- all the way up to its current firmware, 3.50 -- the opportunity to run homebrew, install custom firmware, and generally monkey up Sony's plans to get you to play PSP games on the system over, say, 14-year-old SNES games. Can't stop 'em, Sony -- this is what people want. People want their hardware unlocked, they want emulation of everything up to PSX, and they don't want you steppin' on their toes over it. Proof? Hell, look at Lumines.

    Wow.

    5900% is absolutely insane. Perhaps I should have bought Lumines over Valkyrie Profile....

    can someone explain this exploit a bit more?
    I need elaboration. Videos would be best

    and then how to exploit this exploit? Where can you find homebrew games after you make this happen?

    FRoGBuster, let me explain it to you;
    Hackers have found an exploit in the way the PSP processes Lumines savegames. This lets them run their own code, causing a command-buffer overflow. Basically, that overrides the PSP security and allows them to change a few files in the PSP so it will run HEN (Homebrew ENabler). Through HEN, hackers can run a downgrader, which allows you to change your firmware version to 1.50. 1.50 Has been completely hacked (unlocked) by hackers, allowing you to play/run free games/applications which are coded by amateur/independent programmers (homebrew games) and use all kinds of hacks, all of which Sony tries to block.
    Currently, the best thing to do after downgrading to 1.50 is to upgrade to an OE-firmware (custom firmware). These OE-firmwares combine all the features of the newer firmwares with all the hacks of the 1.50. That means you can play all the newest games and use all the new functions while still being able to run all the hacks and homebrew games you could run on 1.50.

    Pretty amazing, but expected since everyone wants to downgrade. I checked about 8 stores for the game and they were either sold out or didn't have it.
