An agreement with Nintendo results in the closure of viewing the Ocarina of Time fan movie. The cast hopes they have inspired others to enjoy the Zelda franchise, and film making.

Hey, everyone. We just wanted to let you know that Dec. 31 was the last day that The Hero of Time was available for viewing. We came to an agreement with Nintendo earlier this month to stop distributing the film.

Would Nintendo even have had any legal ground for opposing the fan film? The net is filled with tons of fan art, fan fiction and fan sites in general. As long as they were not making money (which I don't think they were) then Nintendo shouldn't have bothered to begin with. Rather than harm them this would have been a nice boost of interest. =\

Not as if this move is going to do anything anyway. The film's probably doing the rounds on other video sites or download sites anyway.

      Quite so.
Interesting they showed any leniency by leaving it until the New Year, though.
      Nintendo are hardasses.

Since when were Nintendo party poopers?

Oh wait... they always have been...

The only reason they'll shut free viewings down is so they can sell it and take credit. Expect it.

Nintendo, you bastards. Go shoot yourselves already. When you start stepping on fan made, not for profit projects that are doing no harm, then you've just crossed the line.

Nintendo are arseholes, if someones made something that they could have possibly made AND made money for it, they'll throw a hissy fit and get what they want.

    *bleep* you Nintendo.

It's Nintendo's property; they have to protect it... it's not that hard understand. Even if there's no profit and done in good intentions, that's their creation and they have a right to say what goes on with it.

Some companies are alright with fan created stuff, ie Bungie, Naughty Dog, and apparently Kojima; some aren't, simple as that. No need to get all pissy at Nintendo

But WHY aren't they cool with it? That's the question to which there is no adequate answer other than them being pricks.

Maybe they just didn't like the movie and didn't want their frachise to be accosiated with it.

Possible but why is all the crappy yet popular as hell fan-fiction just looked over? The fan-fiction (the bad side of it anyway) was around for longer, was more well known and is MUCH worse than HoT was, yet they don't bat an eyelid.

Besides Nintendo don't care about franchise association unless it will lose them money, which this wouldn't and, in fact, could only help make.

Fan art is small time. I mean, the most popular video game fan artwork that's been released recently is the ultra-realistic stuff; and even so it hasn't gotten much attention. In comparison, this video has been featured on basically every gaming website out there, even IGN had a the trailer of it up.

If they let it keep going, it'd give the message that "Hey, it's okay to do this kind of stuff." My guess is they wanted to make an example out of it.

I don't think this movie would have gained them money, they already have a strong force behind the franchise; the only people that would have watched the movie are those who already know of Zelda

That still makes no sense though.

"Hey Nintendo, Zelda is a legendary franchise and we love it so we're going to show our love by making this fantastic, long piece of work which took us ages and shows our dedication and love for the franchise."

"Lolno, take it the *bleep* off."

          ""

Keeping it wouldn't get them more fans, you're right, but it would damn sure keep the fans they have from walking away. This is just slapping them and telling them to go away.

You're being a little unfair there Hideo1. They still let them keep the movie up until the end of the year, and The Legend Of Zelda is Nintendo's property, they have the right to do what they want with it.

I'm sure Nintendo knows that it will make it'll way around the internet anyway. They just don't want it to end up getting mainstream attention, becuase people will instanly accosiate it with Nintendo.

          Bull. Shit.

Yes, they have the right to, I *bleep*ing know that.

They don't, however, have an adequate reason too. They should want their name attached to it, because it was good and it showed how loved and great their franchise is. All they've done is shown how needlessly petty and stupid they can be.

          Well freaking done Nintendo.
