It looks like we might see some Western-developed Final Fantasy games in future. In a recent interview with Edge, Square Enix's president Yoichi Wada revealed that he is open to the idea of a Final Fantasy game being created in the West, provided it is overseen by their Japanese developers.

If this Western developed Final Fantasy does come into fruition, Wada said that he hoped it would fare similarly to Batman: Arkham Asylum, a Western game that "caters very much to the Japanese taste".

Lets hope the series doesn't go down Silent Hill's road.

When pushed a bit harder he did concede that the seminal JRPG series might make it into Western hands. He continued: "There is always a possibility that Final Fantasy could be produced with the input of our Western developers, overseen by our Japanese developers."

He was also very optimistic about how their new Western acquisitions would fare in the tough Japanese market. He enthused: "Something like Batman: Arkham Asylum, for example, is something that is very like the Japanese taste in games, in fact it caters very much to the Japanese taste. Arkham Asylum is like the best aspects of Metal Gear solid, but evolved."

My reaction upon reading the title was "Haha, ew." Then I saw the mention of Silent Hill, imagined a western-developed Final Fantasy game again, to give a bit more of a chance.

    I vomited. Everywhere.

I want to see what a Bioware, Final Fantasy/Dragon Age mash up would look like now. Claudia Black as Morrigan would kick much effeminate Cloud and Sephiroth ass

    First I thought: "WTF"...
Then I thought: "Ohhhhh, I get it"...

I dunno how good of an idea that would be. People are already bitching about how Westernized the series it getting, so putting the entire design into our hands probably wouldn't go over very well with the consumers.

I, for one, probably wouldn't really care. A FF title is a FF title, and I will get it nonetheless. I definitely can't say the same for others though.
