Back in 2008, I joked that GACKT was taking over Japanese games. Well, it looks like he's determined to prove me right...
In the past few years, the popular Japanese rock singer and actor has lent his likeness to the Devil May Cry-styled Bujingai, Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core and Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus (as Genesis), the PS3's little-known title Bounty Killer, Samurai Warriors 3 and the pachislot game Gladiator. He has also appeared in a number of bizarre gaming commercials, including Metal Gear Solid 2 and Parappa the Rapper, and has sung a number of theme songs for various games. Yep, it's crazy! And I won't be surprised if more games are added to that list in future.
So what game series has GACKT gotten involved with now? He's singing the theme song (his popular cover of "Ai Senshi") for the PSP port of Mobile Suit: Gundam VS Gundam NEXT PLUS, which was released in December in Japan. GACKT is well known for his 'otaku' obsession with all things Gundam, he has sung various songs for the series and recently released an album dedicated to Gundam creator, Yoshiyuki Tomino.
No news on whether the game will make it to Western shores.

Bugger Dirge of Cerberus and Crisis Core. Imagine if GACKT had sung for a game like FFvsXIII instead. (none of that Redemption light-rock stuff, I'm talking one of his amazing ballads or hard-rock songs). A celebrity as big as GACKT and a game as big as FFvsXIII would create some massive publicity in Japan...Bigger than what it's already getting. And heck, it looks like Nomura is starting to turn FFvsXIII into a GACKT wank-fest anyway. Oh, I went there
If I find any GACKT/game related news, it'll be on this site like white on rice. XD
