Legendary Pictures chairman Thomas Tull discusses the obvious; that games based on films tend not to be very good, and that to rely purely on the brand is a mistake. No, really?

Legendary Pictures chairman Thomas Tull has warned that it can be "dangerous" to assume games based on hit movies will automatically be a success.

During his keynote speech on the second day of the Hollywood & Games Summit Tull said, "Not everything translates. Just because a movie comes out and does well, if there isn’t a good story or a compelling reason [to create a game], it is a very dangerous thing to take a brand, slap it on a box, and just say 'Well, people will buy it.'

It really took someone this long to figure out that films have a reputation for making extremely bad games purely because companies rely on the brand to sell them?

It's oblivious comments like these that give the Games>Movies/Movies>Games industry such a bad rap.

Take Silent Hill for example, I thought that was a great movie! However, due to the reputation that all games made into movies suck, it probably didn't do as well as it should have.

People still buy the games, though. Like Shrek, or Harry Potter, or something, which would probably be bought as presents for kids. The creators have never needed to care about their reputation as long as they sell.

I guess it really is true that money fuels this world.

It's a shame though. Make a barely-decent game and slap a big-name movie on to it and apparently its a great game.

    Those bastards.

The Warriors and Scarface games are great games. Spider-Man 2 is okay. I haven't played a lot of movie-games, but I thought those ones were good.
