Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that the release of Gran Turismo 5 will be delayed. The Polyphony Digital-developed title was not given a new release date.

After receiving a "Time Trial Challenge" demo and official boxart over the last few weeks, Gran Turismo 5 has been delayed again. Previously scheduled for a March release in Japan and a Summer release in North America, the next entry in the "Real Driving Simulator" series no longer even has a tentative release date according to a press release from Sony. The company cited "production-related matters" as the reason behind the delay and has apologized to the gaming community for its sudden release date shift.

The delays are ridiculous. Forza has had three very good incarnations, and Need For Speed keeps getting stronger and stronger without the need for such ludicrous development time. I fear that by the time GT5 is released, it will already look and feel dated.

It won't look dated I mean look at it the visuals in Gran Turismo 5 are probably above and beyond what these next gen consoles should be able to do. Gran Turismo 5 will always be a treat for the eyes as they really have spent the best part of half a decade masterfully crafting these digital machines that are so close to the real thing now. If anything it wouldn't surprise me if they were delaying Gran Turismo 5 so they have to release the sequel on the Playstation 4, as to me that is the only way they will top Gran Turismo 5 visually. Forza isn't close as much as people think it is Gran Turismo 5 is on a whole different playing field, but it does come with a time price and to many they would prefer a new game every 18 months not every 60 months lol. Eitherway when this game ships which I still feel will be this year it will be the essential driving simulator for the next half decade. It's visuals unsurpassed, it's physics untouched, but the sad truth is it will have to deliver that as we probably won't get a sequel to this for another 5 years.

Seriously? Production related matters? That's not a good enough reason.

I'm guessing they'll try to work 3D into the game better, a few people at CES said it was sub par. They'll probably want this to be the flagship for that sort of thing

They didn't have a problem releasing 2 games on their prior consoles and just evolving the engine as time goes by. Honestly just release it and if there's some magic engine update then save it for a few years from now and release GT6.

FFF just nailed it, they're pulling a 3D Realms right now. Oh look Uncharted 2 has this new technique for lighting, lets incorporate that. Oh wait Heavy Rain is doing weather more effectively lets wait and see if we can clone that.

I've been saying it already and it seems to hold true with many impatient fans. There's a point where the graphics no longer matter, we're pretty much at that point right now in general be it PC, PS3 or Xbox 360. People just want a boatload of cars, insane custom options and a great time racing around with friends online or in their own homes.

Polyphony saying they could release the game at any time last year doesn't help the situation at all. It means they're sitting on a finished product polishing and tinkering around hoping to reach the perfect game that will never come forward. They're trying to defeat the fact that everything progresses and it never will happen.

With Duke Nukem Forever cancelled what game can take its spot in the king of delaying?

    Oh look! GT5!

I will get it when it releases...it's just the matter of releasing that's the important part. I mean, this game is taking upwards of 5 years to make. Who is really going to wait that long?

Goddammit PD, if you're going to delay it into the next century, why bother giving us any release dates at ALL??

    Whatever.

This game is beginning to disinterest me.

Honestly I'd be rather surprised if it even came out this year.

It was supposed to be out by March, but if there's no new release date, then they've probably written off 2010.

Then again, it may be a delay of only a couple weeks. We won't know unless PD discusses this.

At the end of the day this is not a localisation issue. So just because the Japanese version was delayed does not mean this effects us. We still could have been looking at a November 2010 release as Polyphony never announced it. Maybe they are delaying so that they can have a simultanious worldwide release closer to Christmas. To call this game Duke Nukem Forever just because of delays is stupid.

Yeah Polyphony are polishing it lots, but it does have to release as Sony needs this game. I mean the PS3 has had lots of titles that looked like they were never going to come out. Heavy Rain, God of War 3. They were all originally destined for 2007/2008 releases, we are now in 2010 these games have been in development for 5 years now, they are now coming out. So just because Polyphony needs a little extra time does not break the norm of Polyphony or Sony.

The problem is they're trying to nail it on the first try instead of doing like they always do. God of War had 2 releases on the PS2, Gran Turismo has had 2 on the PS1 and the PS2. The point being that no matter how good you think you did on that first new build there will ALWAYS be flaws.

It's pointless as a realistic aspiration given that the market eats this series up, it sells consoles, it sells accessories like mad, and it would push DLC like crazy later. If you've read the Duke Nukem articles about the higher management you might understand the reference since it's not about the game being vaporware, it's about PD being so insecure that they keep trying to tweak a product that could be a gem already.

Get it out the door, make the consumers happy and don't worry about an ideal release date because at this point in time there are no games in competition for space. If they're so worried about not having the best visuals on the planet for the next 10 years then work on it in GT6 don't stall this game over and over.

It's just a headache at this point. I want my disturbingly huge list of cars and clunkers to tweak out just because I can.
