Heavy Rain's US boxart was revealed yesterday and fans' opinions weren't very positive.

Well, Sony took notice of the backlash and today announced that they will be releasing an alternative print-out box art for anyone who is unhappy with the official boxart.

Sony Computer Entertainment America is giving fans a choice. According to Cristian Cardona (Associate Product Manager of Software Marketing) in the comment section of the Playstation.Blog, SCEA will be releasing an alternative box art for Heavy Rain in PDF format around the time the game launches. The print out cover will be the same as the European box art.

I am glad to be European at times... Cannot wait to get my special edition of this game.

Oh, wow, they sure spared no expense with the alternative boxart. All they're releasing is a PDF file. Have fun printing it out and trimming it. It'll look like crap if you dont have glossy paper.

Because it's so difficult to obtain glossy photo paper and so much more easy to bitch about it.

The "You might end up using it again" argument notwithstanding, who would buy glossy just for one thing?

Reversible covers are the way to go.

I make photo prints all the time and it doesn't cost more than a couple candy bars.

And those that don't do photo prints? What's convenient to you is not to others. If I were faced with this predicament, I'd bitch too.

And this isn't even taking into consideration those who have horrible printers.

Dude it's not an inconvenience to anyone! It's just boxart. Just play the game!

Why would they print dual covers for each copy? Half of the people won't even know the other cover exists and at least half of the remaining people won't care

Not to mention it'll look odd as PS3 and 360 cases are see through. It would look stupid seeing the alternative box art from inside the case.

Actually PS3 game covers have a clear layer, under which is the paper cover. So if you keep the plastic cover, you can put whatever boxart you want under there, and it'll still look glossy.

What, does nobody actually look at their game covers?

I'm not sure what you have in your printer, but mine has standard photocopy paper. None of mine feel like standard photocopy paper.

No, take a look at your game case. If you look carefully, there is a clear plastic sheet over top of what seems to me to be just normal paper. I don't know why you'd need glossy paper if you have that.

          Its gloss paper underneath.

Gloss paper reflects more light which makes colours more brighter.

It looks better and has sharper image quality than on a regular sheet of paper...

Well I guess I take gloss paper for granted seeing as I can get it en masse at a local print shop. Though I can understand if it's not convenient elsewhere.

BOXART MEANS EVERYTHING! DO YOU WANT AN UGLY GAME IN YOUR COLLECTION? WHAT WILL YOU TELL YOUR FELLOW NERDS WHEN THEY SEE THE REVOLTING PICTURE?

Although putting sarcasm aside, boxart does have a minimal impact on sales, so this complaining is in fact benefiting Sony. In a long winded and really minimal way.

Actually box art has a massive impact on sales. Most people who do not know much about games will buy them on box art alone.

People who do that are also incredibly stupid, and should have their gaming privileges revoked.

Man, cant even edit posts anymore. Its like, if a game has a shit cover it gives off the impression that the game is crap itself. Its all about presenting the game.

Its a waste anyway, make a brilliant game then just make it look bad with the cover.
