Assassin's Creed III will feature online play

A question that has been circulating around the gaming community is whether the next chapter in the AC saga will feature online play. Ubisoft have recently come forward, announcing "online multiplayer" will feature in the third instalment.

The press release reads as follows:

"The 2010-11 fiscal year will see a greater number of franchise releases than fiscal year 2009-10, including Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction, a new game in the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon series, Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands, Driver, Raving Rabbids 4 and a new episode of Assassin's Creed, which will be the first in the series to have an online multiplayer mode."

No doubt the rumour mills will already be churning, but with so few details available it's hard to imagine how Ubisoft will pull this one off.

    Oh god no. Think of LotR Conquest, with the assassin class...and picture everyone choosing that class. Not exactly sure how it would work, seems like a weird idea for sure.

    Co-op is fine, but I hope theres no competitive MP.

      Yeah, co-op would be kind of cool. Imagine one guy creating a diversion while the other sneaks in an kills the target, and stuff like that. Any other kind of multiplayer would be a bit weird in a game like these.

    I hope they have more ideas on how they could put multiplayer in this game, cause I can't think of any >_>

    Deathmatch type online play would be THE WORST. All I can think that would work is something along the lines of races and assassinate X amount of people the quickest, etc.

    I'm sort of excited about this.. It depends how they go about it, could be an epic fail, but for now I will simply hope that they can pull it off.

    In summary...

    AC3 ONLINE CO-OP = AWESOME.

    AC3 ONLINE VERSUS = FAIL.

    I think we can all agree.
