Some disheartening news for Assassin's Creed fans. Many were expecting a new assassin in a brand new environment, but CVG reports that Assassin's Creed 3 will actually continue the story with Ezio. Lets hope it will come out just as fun.

A fellow Ubisoft spokesman then added: "The game will take place with the same hero, which is Ezio, and will follow-up the story that took place in Assassin's Creed 2."

Guillemot confirmed the game would be sold at a "full price point".

Awesome. I had hoped the next one would be 50% Ezio's time and 50% modern setting as desmond, they can't have be developing his own assassins skills for no reason, after all.

Can't say I'm overly thrilled at this news. Yes Ezio is a very good character and a 1000 times better than Altair. But I would have liked for a new guy to have a go.

Lets hope Assassins Creed 3 is that, not Assassins Creed 2.5

    Nooooo-

I thought we'd finally get either a female assassin or a more modern location

Kinda seems like they screwed over Altair a bit, almost as if AC2 wasn't even related to AC1.

Not that I'd want to see Altair return anyway.

I would've liked a more modern setting with Desmond as the main character >.>

This sucks. A new Assassin would have been so much better. Unless they change up the environment drastically (have ezio travel far away) it will feel bland.

Let's be honest, guys, we knew it wasn't going to be Desmond in a modern-day setting. Everybody has guns. It wouldn't make sense for Desmond not to pick up a gun and use swords and throwing knives and wrist blades against people with guns. That last level in AC2 was laughable; they could just as easily have tased Desmond and company instead of descending on them with twenty or so metal batons. Face it, the gameplay in Assassin's Creed would just be out of place in a modern-day setting.

However, I still would've preferred something other than Ezio. What really would've been cool, in my opinion at least, would be a female assassin in feudal Japan. However, it would be tough to make this go with the storyline because Christianity, historically, was never big in Japan.

I think the best we can hope for at this point is that Ezio goes to some far-off land in pursuit of the next Piece of Eden.

In Ubisoft's financial update for its third fiscal quarter (yes, the one that saw Splinter Cell: Conviction get delayed) towards the end of the press release Ubisoft makes mention of an upcoming Assassin's Creed multiplayer mode.

The press release states that coming in 2010 is "a new episode of Assassin’s Creed, which will be the first in the series to have an online multiplayer mode."

No more details at the moment, but keep your eyes peeled and we'll keep you updated when we hear more.

We only have one question now... actually, maybe two.

Is the single player game not sacred anymore? And how the hell is multiplayer going to work in Assassin's Creed anyway? I can't say I'm intrigued or even care, it's hardly a franchise that needs multiplayer.

[Update:] IGN reached out to Ubisoft and got a few answers about the upcoming product. Ubisoft clarified that this is a new project and not an expansion to our Game of the Year, Assassin's Creed 2. The title picks up where Assassin's Creed 2 left things and will feature Ezio... and of course will feature multiplayer.

At least Ezio returns. That we do approve of.

For some reason I feel that they're just doing this to attract female gamers.
