A few days ago it was announced that I Am Alive has been delayed again because the devs have been "totally re-engineering the product" to use the company's current Splinter Cell engine. But what exactly does that mean?

Well, according to Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemont, that means the entire game is being built from scratch...

"We have actually amortized all the cost that [was] incurred with the previous developer," Guillemot said.
"So everything we do is fresh now on that product, and we think it can become a very good quality product, but it's not going to come this financial year."

I thought this was gonna be a unique game. I don't want it to play like Splinter cell...

    Ubisoft is kinda gay tbh

Because they're using the game engine does not at all mean it's going to play like Splinter Cell. It could, but it absolutely does not mean that it has to.

It probably will. Fallout 3 used TESIV: Oblivions engine and it played almost exactly like it.

That's not how it works. Trust me. An engine is just the foundation.

For example, Gears of War, Unreal Tournament 3, Bioshock, all of those games use the same engine.
