Remember the uproar last year when fans discovered that Resident Evil 5's DLC was already on the disc?

Well, it seems a similar thing has happened with the upcoming content in the Gold Edition.
Director Yasuhiro Anpo revealed in his latest blog that the extra missions, costumes and characters were originally planned as extras on the main RE5 disc, but due to costs and the complexity behind making new cutscenes, they ended up having to cut it and later sell it as DLC.

The title of this is very misleading. The article blatantly says that they wanted to have it as part of the original game but couldn't afford the money or time to create the scenes to represent it. Nowhere in the article does it say that the gold edition stuff is on the disk already, whoever posted this just misread it.

Most games DLC is probably stuff that they wanted in the game but didn't have time etc. It's probably the exact same situation.

Yeah that's true. Though, does that really apply to Capcom? The only thing I can see being affected is their timing, because they all have their set release dates for games, and try their best to stick to the schedule. There's delays sometimes, like how they are delaying/spreading out their titles this year. Capcom is one of the most successful developing company around though, I'm pretty sure they had the money to dish out for the game, one that would sell quite well. They hit the right notes in marketing, established the Co-Op of the game, etc., so the following was there. I mean, I know it would have taken longer to get the game out to us by including these extra scenes, levels, and such, but there's no doubt that they had the money for it.

Wow. Articles like this are freaking just fuel for a growing ignorance among gamers.

Stop this needless complaining. This is not the same at all to content already being on the disc and then having you pay to unlock it. That's offensive.

This is just the case of a developer not being able to get what they wanted on the disc due to time and monetary constraints. But because we live in a world with network connectivity and DLC we can finally see what developers also had in mind. This has happened SO many times throughout history in games before DLC was even a thing and no one complained then because that was just how things were. Now with the availability of DLC we get that opportunity to get some more content for a game we love at a small price.

You mean like what Capcom did with the extra costumes for Street Fighter IV?

But I agree, this wasn't originally on the disc, just originally planned. I'm fine with added DLC in games. It's not at all mandatory to download or purchase, it's there to keep games fresh for the most part.

Sorry, will add a 'planned' to the title.

But tbh, I don't think there's anything wrong with complaining about it. It should've been in the main game to begin with (just like all of RE5's lazy DLC), if only because the game isn't complete without it. They were developing the game for five years... It wouldn't have killed Capcom to delay the game a little longer to add this content. I doubt they were that short of time and money that they couldn't make two measly extra missions.
Charging around $15 for this DLC pack freakin' sucks. Especially considering it's only two new missions that were originally planned for the game and some costumes.

I'll get the DLC, but I'm not happy that we have to pay more just to get Jill and Chris' full story.

How is the game incomplete? In what possible way could you make that a valid argument?

It wasn't even ON the main disc, why don't people read articles before submitting them? It means, that they wanted to put it on, but couldn't therefore scratched it and have now decided to make it DLC.
