In a surprising move, Final Fantasy XIII's composer, Masashi Hamauzu, has announced his departure from Square Enix. Further departures from the remaining team will also occur in coming months. There is currently no news on where Hamauzu is headed after Square.

It will be interesting to see who will compose the music for upcoming Final Fantasy games.

Square Enix Music Online can exclusively reveal that Final Fantasy XIII composer Masashi Hamauzu has left Square Enix. His departure is the latest in an exodus at the company's sound team, following Kenichiro Fukui and Junya Nakano, and further departures from the remaining four composer team will occur in coming months.

    If he doesn't immediately go freelance, he'll join another company, do some commercial and critical failure games and then go freelance.

    Yoko Shimomura left the company in 2002 or something, and she's still doing music for them.

    I hope he joins Mistwalker Studios.

    Blue Dragon was alright but Lost Odyssey was fantastic, i'm sure if they got even more former Square employees they could make games that they've always wanted to.
