In a recent interview, MAG's senior designer Scott Rudi discussed why he believes the game couldn't be multiplatform and why it is so unique to the PS3...

Senior designer Scott Rudi doubted whether it was even possible for PS3 exclusive MAG to be a multiplatform game.

“I don't even know if it's possible for multiplatform,” he said.

“We're using so many architectural features unique to the PS3, like the Cell system, that I would be hard pressed to – and I'm not a programmer or anything – but from what I've been hearing, this is what the PS3 can do and few others can.”

So it might not be possible for MAG to work on Xbox 360?

“As a game player I'd love to see someone else try.”

Bullshit. I highly doubt MAG is a very technologically demanding game. It's the servers that are taking most of the force here.

You seem to be seriously underestimating what it takes for the game to actually register all of the information that's occurring at once in a 256 player map.

Because having to process 256 sets of player actions at a single time in a huge map is something that anything can do?

Regardless this game so far is a niche title. IGN UK just gave the game a 7.6/10. They basically stated the game is one huge unorganised meat grinder, as team work just struggles to exist in such a vast online experience.

Well the point is really to make clans and then go with the teamwork that way. You can either do that or just get a group of friends together, but that's how it is and with the actual release and a lot of people getting the game it will work itself out.

And since there's such a small group of people who are actually playing the game pre-launch on the full version, there weren't any clans, and thus low cooperation.

Though tbh I expect mid-to-low grades for this game, considering its narrow theme. Unfortunately a lot of PS3 exclusive titles are usually niche; Demon's Souls, Valkyria Chronicles, MGS4, LBP. None of those are meant to appeal to huge markets. Compared to Gears, Halo, Forza and the variety of FPS exclusives on 360, the PS3 itself commonly provides niche entertainment. Which can be seen as a positive, cause you can get much more diversity in games that way.

I gotta say you missed a big one with the Uncharted games. Something about them doesn't seem to provide universal appeal, even though the gameplay is in fact universally enjoyable. I think it comes down to the theme. I really had no desire to play Uncharted 1 until I got the demo for Uncharted 2 and realized just how damn good the games are.

He missed Uncharted because it isn't very niche at all; in fact it's probably the most widely aimed PS3 exclusive. They pretty much package it as a game that's a movie as well and it's pretty much a spiritual successor to Tomb Raider and what some people would have wanted out of a good Indiana Jones game; it has universal appeal.

Critical acclaim doesn't mean it garners a whole lot of commercial success. The fact of the matter is that they did not sell nearly as well as you would believe based on the ratings they received, and general consensus from non-PS3 owners on the game is that they wouldn't really play it anyway, which is not true.

          Who said anything about sales?

It has universal appeal due to gameplay, the style of the game itself (ripped from two other well loved franchises) and because it involved an arrogant dick stealing crap and British people betraying him. Universal appeal. It's like a movie game, but actually fun too.

It will work for a small amount of time, trust. Battlefield has been doing this for a LONG time already and anyone who plays that game can tell you its very rare for teamwork to actually happen.

It sucks but its true, everyone just charges for vehicles then just wander off into the general direction of combat and go solo.
The only slight bit of teamwork is medics who revive but they also just run around randomly healing people as they go.

Unless they implement a system to give you a penalty for not working as a team then its not going to be very effective. :/

Haha, i'd love to see someone else make a game that has 256 players on it for the 360 and watch this idiot eat his words.

MAG could be easily made and played on the 360, it's nothing special.

Yes, a civil remark about what he has heard will be eaten if someone does what he wants them to do.

Christ, read the article before menstruating everywhere.

There's no organization? Weird, strangely me and the other 6 squads I've played with (all equipped with mics) have always worked as a fully functional unit completing our objective. Must be some weird phenomenon or something...

Yes it is, Like I said it works on the outset because its highly promoted and people give it a shot, this is what happened with Battlefield 2. It works to a point, then as the game matures the online and teamworking just buckles. More so if there are upgrades for kills etc because people just run of to where they can get most kills rather than sticking with their team.

It doesnt make the game bad or anything, Battlefield has the exact same setup as MAG and even with the team function not really working its fun.

Its a tried and tested method.

Battlefield and MAG are not the same at all. Sabotage is a good example, there are two objectives at the beginning, with at least different squads tackling different objectives at once and NOT straying over to the other objective.

Alpha gets assigned A, so they defend/attack A and solely A while they engage with their rival squad. While Bravo is doing the same thing with the other objective, it's a system that works very well if teams stick together and to their own place. I've seen it, I've experienced it, I've done it and because of that, I've been able to win at least 5+ games in a row.

You mean like the game mode in Battlefield 2142 where you have to raid the enemy teams ship and then once you do a blow up sequence occurs?

You get assigned to objectives in Battlefield too, Hadley anyone listens though now, unless its clans or a close knit group of friends. It will be like "ALPHA DEFEND THIS POINT" "BRAVO ATTACK THIS POINT!" "CHARLIE REPAIR THIS OBJECTIVE! and then everyone just runs to the frontline to get kills. Where many fun moments are had. If the objective is on the way or near they WILL go to check it out though. If they have to run quite awhile to get there they don't bother, but as some people do it slowly draws the combat in that direction as some people are moving there and the rest are running after them to get kills.

From what I've seen medics is a mixed bunch, you get some who just play normally and use the medi pack for them selves. Then you get the ones who run across the battlefield with the defibrillator reviving dead bodies and looking out for people shouting medic.

If they gave you like a damage bonus for being near squad members like

          +3 for one
          +5 for 2
          +8 for 3 etc

          That would be cool.

The way it works is that you are assigned to a specific squad. You can only keep in contact with that squad (unless you're a platoon leader) and defending/attacking enemies in that specific objective area can gain you more points. That and the map itself points out the way you need to go, plus convenient respawn points make it easier for each squad to reach their own objectives.

Yeah thats like battlefield, You can only talk to you squad members, the squad leaders can talk to each other their teams and the commander. The commander can give out commands and the squad leader can choose to accept them or not.

The squad leaders can also choose objectives of their own, when your assigned an objective a big icon appears on your map and there is a line leading you to the objective.

You can also re spawn on the squad leader when you die.

I've heard the game has been significantly polished and improved over the beta. I'm curious to see if this is true. The beta seemed really useless. Like the kind of beta that you're better off not even making public because it's not a good representation of the final game.
