The original BioShock was a very much singular and in a sense, isolating experience. So naturally you may be worried about the sequel and its multiplayer component. Developer 2K assures however the multiplayer wasn't tacked on.

K Marin has promised Bioshock fans that the second game in the series' multiplayer mode has been carefully thought out - and not "just shoved on".

Speaking to PC Zone in the magazine's latest issue, 2K Marin senior producer Melissa Miller said:

"Multiplayer is a big part of Bioshock 2 and it certainly wasn't something where we thought: 'Oh, let's just shove a multiplayer mode on.'

"We went to a lot of trouble [to ensure] that it was something that would fit properly into the Rapture universe and gameplay-wise."

Well, I expected as much, seeing as they have been talking about the multiplayer since we first started getting real info on the game. In fact, I've probably heard more about the Multiplayer than the main game.

Mostly due to spoiler issues in the main story I'm sure, but still...

Already have it waiting to be DLed via Steam....February 9 seems so far away though ~_~

I'd rather see Bioshock 2 focus 100% on single player, that's what made the original so good. Multiplayer is the easy way out, no need to program good A.I, just throw some people together and let them shoot each other. Of course having a quality lobby/ranking/matchmaking system takes effort and I know it won't be a disaster, but there are simply too few good single player experiences these days.

The single player will still be awesome. I mean, they got a whole new dev team to work on the multiplayer (with their guidance for style and the like) meaning they could devote most of their time to the single player, and this is the team who brought us Bioshock 1, so I wouldn't worry about it not living up to expectations.

It'll be hard-pressed to surpass the original though

This game is a real sleeping giant, IMO. Everyone seems to be forgetting that BioShock was easily one of the best games ever made. Period. I have no doubt this one will be amazing as well.

    I have it pre-ordered and I can't wait.

I think the first game will tarnish this one. I don't think BioShock 2 can live up to the first game. BioShock 1 was something special, it came out with only the developers past releases as a quality guage and then blew everyone away. I don't think BioShock 2 will feel unique or special enough to captivate people the way it's predecessor did.

Perhaps you can explain your reasons why instead of repeating over and over that it won't live up to it's predecessor?

Never said it would pass the first one. I just said it would be a great game, which I still think.
