You might have read about the recently found exploit that allows people who own the game Lumines, to boot homebrew software on their PSP. Of course, that won't affect people who just won't update to that new firmware. Looks like Sony is having a tough time dealing with piracy.

Sony has updated PlayStation Portable firmware to version 3.51 after hackers found a way to bypass security in its most recent update and downgrade firmware.

The virtue of doing that from a hacker's perspective is that older firmware is capable of running homebrew applications and - the bit Sony worries about - pirated games.

Too bad it's not mandatory or else it'd be a big deal.

Lumines is a good game anyway. Play it, you bastards.

As long as they don't release a fixed Lumines, everything will be fine. I really want some homebrew on my PSP >_> .

Haha, now the charts on amazon will show Lumines with a 5900% increase in used items!

I wonder how Sony Will start making the firmware mandatory. . . like make some features unavailable Unless you upgrade?

They're already doing it already and doing a bad job of it.

People need more freedom. If I want to run a NES emulator on my PSP I will do it, no matter what Sony says. It's my PSP, I spent money on it and I can throw it out the window if I want and Sony can't stop me with its firmware

That's the reason people use homebrew, I sure as hell would get bored without it.
