Recent studies show that only 14& of gamers actually use the DVD feature that is most common on today's consoles. Clearly, it's only the actual gaming-specific fields that they're interested in.

A new report released this week from Dallas-based think tank The Diffusion Group "On The Use of Game Consoles for Movie Viewing" shows that 80 percent of consoles in households can play DVDs or have the ability to download and watch films from the Net. However, only 30 percent of those surveyed were aware that their console could play movies, and less than half of those--some 13 percent--had actually done so. Of this 13 percent, three quarters used the console only for playing back a DVD disc, with the remaining quarter also purchasing or renting movies online.

I guess that seems a little logical. I find myself very rarely using my Xbox 360's DVD player these days. Maybe it's because there aren't any many good DVDs as there used to be.

I only use my PS2's DVD player, because I don't own another. I could watch them on my computer, I guess, but I prefer my TV.

Well does this really matter. This is irrelevant as the topic Supernouva posted.
I use 100% of everything. Whats the point of spending money on something if your not going to use all of its features.

Yeah, I saw something similar to this, only specifically relating to the PS3...

I too, use all the features on occasion (cept for HD-TV related features)

I use my PS2 as a DVD player at my dad's all the time, and before I got a PS3 and 360 I used it even more often...

How can only 30% be aware of it @_@ I research my game consoles before I actually buy them 0_o

    I must admit, I don't think I've ever used my PS2 to watch a movie ...
The PS2 in my house is in my brothers bedroom, were as the DVD player is downstairs in the front room. I just prefer watching DVD's on a bigger screen and somewhere that I can get comfortable is all ^^

I guess I'm included in that 14%. I got 4 DVD players at my house. I only use my 360 and PS2 for games, as they were meant for.

Supernouva, they were not made just for gaming, otherwise they would not have that feature on it.

      and...?

It is up to you to use it or not. If you have a DVD player already, you can use that. It's nice that the game consoles have that feture, but you aren't forced to used it

What if you dont. I have a dvd player as well but not im my room. And i would get murdered if i touched the living room one. Since my mom is watching shows on it. The point is the xbox and ps3 was made to kill off regular dvd players. Though i dont see how anyone would know that. However Blu-ray players i guess its special lol.

Well, everyone has a DVD player already, so people will use that.

I try to be part of that 14%. My 360 works for some DVD's but not others. I think it is just what I have it hooked up to.

I use my PS3 because it upscales regular DVDs to 1080p. Used my 360 prior to the PS3's update.

I always use my DVD player to play DVDs, I think I used my PS2 to play a DVD once but that's pretty much it. It's just easier to play a DVD in a DVD player in my opinion.

I'm one of those 86% that don't use a video game console for watching movies. I have like 3 DVDs in my house. Two with surround sound and one is my sisters. I watch movies on my DVD player.

I only play my DVDs on my PS2 when there isn't another dvd player free in the rest of the house. I have a portable dvd player too but a TV is much better and easier.

The only time I use my DvD player for my xbox is when my other family members use the DvD player for the HDtv >_<.

I use my 360 to play DVD's in HD too. I've never owned a DVD player that wasn't included in one of my consoles or computers.

I use my systems to what they're capable of. I use my phone for internet when I need it, but for $1 for 24 hours to save costs. I always play DVD's on my PS2 because it's fun to do. YOu can play games and DVD's on the same system. Better yet, when a DVD player is being used, bring out the PS2!

DVD players in systems have never been a big selling point to me, I guess mostly due to the fact that I rarely watch DVD's unless I am sick or something.

Inevitably, a systems usefulness comes down to the quality of games found on the system, not the extra bells and whistles it comes with.

Well a cheap DVD here costs 30 Euros. But eg a console costs a lot more. So sometimes it's not good to use your console because the console is a tool that do multiple jobs.

Imho it's better to use your DVD for DVD watching because it's just a player. If you use the DVD ability in your console, your 'console-life' is decreasing.

I also found that the PS2 controller was annoying to use to navigate the DVD menus.

They must have interviewed little kids or something, because unless I have badly misunderstood this it's saying that only 30% of people are aware of their device being able to play DVDs!?!?! Sorry but how can people not know?...

It was one of the reasons I was able to get the PS2, my mom wanted a DVD player, and so I use it for both reasons.
