PS3 owners will have to install a hefty amount of game data to enjoy Bioshock 2 next week. Like the first game, it'll require 5GB of space on your HDD. New screens also available.

Bioshock 2 is set to release on February 9th in North America on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. If you're planning to purchase the PS3 version of the game, you'll be required to install a mandatory 5GB of game data to play the title.

5GB isn't bad, a lot of games seem to take up around or more than 5GB of space.

BioShock 1 had the same 5Gb install. I was actually expecting this to have the same.

Because you use all of that space all of the time?

I've got a 40GB and the two games I've played most are Oblivion and Fallout, monsters of GB installation rape. Just delete what you're not using and reinstall later when you do

Agreed. I delete the HD installs of games usually when I move onto another title, using a 60GB PS3. So long as you have the save files it's fine.

Well this kinda sucks. I thought that in the two years since the last game the developers would have found a way around this.

It's kinda weird how games like Uncharted can get by with miniscule installs and still be immense, yet a game like this needs 5GB.

One word to explain why that is: Exclusive.

Uncharted was made specifically for PS3 and PS3 alone, so it could put in the extra word to code it to not need it, and make full use of blu-ray. Bioshock wasn't, so it needed a way to compensate, which it did with installations.

Nah, not all of them (just most). Apparently trying to make loading times faster by doing something completely reasonable is a crime now
