Visceral games have commented saying that Dead Space 2 will be more action than horror compared to the first game, and shortly afterwards fans screamed with disappointment. It seems like the horror genre is slowly slipping more and more into action, hopefully the game will still provide a few scares.

"We've got two main teams; we've got some supporting content for Dante's Inferno coming out, but we'll mostly shift our attention to Dead Space 2," Visceral senior VP Nick Earl told Industry Gamers.

"The first one was well received, and we want to take advantage of that start with something that has tremendously wide appeal.

"We're more focused on the action than the horror this time. We're more empowering to the player. We've got a lot of feature innovation and we feel comfortable because we have something with resonance and we have something that's so capable.

*bleep* you Visceral Games. One of the few next-gen games that was good for a scare and they manage to screw it up.

Ah man, do these people not understand that the first one worked fine with jumpy moments? I'm picturing giant necromorphs all over now and no subtlety

    the first game was horror?

Saw it coming a mile away. Face it, blowing shit up and having tits > true horror.

Here's hoping it's a damned good action game and not half-assed, and here's also hoping it won't try to come off as horror.

I never expected this one to be a horror, good thing I didn't get my hopes up. Just make it fun and good, I barely give a crap about horror games these days.....seeing as there are none.

Oh God don't let ruledbysecrecy hear you say DS wasn't scary. To him seeing Elvis, a Unicorn etc. walking down the street is more believable than DS not being scary.GOD the go he had at me because I said I didn't find DS scary was astonishing.

        But DS isn't scary

At least to me, and by the looks of it several other players also didn't find it scary at all.

But at least it tried to be a horror game which is more than I can say for other games. (fear you can't forget anyone? )

The sequel could have been truly scary by taking the problems from the first one and fixing them. That's what sequels are for, fixing them! Not by going mainstream!

WHY ARE ALL MY GAMES GOING MAINSTREAM!!!

I already know why but still

What's this fear of mainstream? Mainstream doesn't = bad. There are alot of things that are good that are also mainstream. That isn't to say that there aren't alot of things that suck (because alot do) but just being mainstream in and of itself does not mean it's going to be of poor quality with no exceptions.

In terms of horror games, "mainstream" usually does equal "bad".

It's not that it's just that Dead Space was a horror game (even if it wasn't scary). Having a sequel meant that they could fix the mistakes from the first and make the sequel a true horror game but having action, having it mainstream is just alienating the audience.

Look at ME2, I loved the first one but the sequel is more of an action game with some rpg elements, there are PLENTY of action games out their, we don't need more, especially if the game didn't start out as action.

Having it action really turns off a buy from me. I guess horror games are to complicated to make in these days as it's easy to screw up.

Between this and the stupid suit, I think I'll pass. Visceral sure went downhill fast.

like dwg said, the first was horror?

As if they will be adding MORE action. The ammount of action the first one had was my biggest problem with the game. There was far too much action for my liking.

What? Really...wanting to hit mainstream that fast? The horror was great in the first game...way to go.

Maybe they realised trying to do a scare a minute just didn't really work towards the end. About half way through Dead Space it was a simple action game as it was no longer scary. If Visceral can make the combat better but spread out the scares and make them truly scary then I accept this.

annnnnnd there goes my interest in this game, first one was fantastic for this horror. They've ruined it now.

That's not right. I've yet to find a horror game that actually seemed scary to me. It's become a treasure hunt for me now (to find that elusive game), and I was interested to see if DS2 would do it.

Why must the good [games] die young?

There's a huge problem here... DEAD SPACE WASN'T SCARY.

I am a freaking scardy cat, I hate horror flicks and games like Silent Hill 2 made me go "*bleep* this game!" and not finish it because of how frightened I got. Dead Space though? NOT SCARY. The game had disturbing imagery and it had a few jump scares, but wasn't genuinely scary in the slightest. Putting gross shit on screen does not make a scary game! Granted I still enjoyed the game, it was still fun, but it was not a scary experience.

Very funny. No I just don't forget morons who REFUSE to believe things that are true. It was quite funny that the ignorant tosser REFUSED to believe that I didn't find DS scary.

Anyway this article shows that lots of people didn't find DS scary.Or maybe everyone is lying about not finding DS scary.

I have yet to find a really scary moment in a game, but DS did a pretty good job of startling me and making me exclaim 'WTF?' If that quality is sacrificed for the sake of giant monsters, then screw the sequel.

Dead Space was scary for the duration of the first chapter, then it pretty much went down hill. If anything this will probably be a positive change to the game.

It fared better than most current-gen horror games, then.
