Tetsuya Nomura, director of Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts 2, and character designer for the Final Fantasy 13 games has given props to the PS3, and stated that it is allowing for things that no other console can do, and that it's not just about graphics, but more of how they've got nearly unlimited potential.
On the heels of news that the PS3 won’t see a Square-Enix release until 2008, Tetsuya Nomura, game and character designer who played a large role on games such as the Kingdom Hearts series as well as a number of other successful Square-Enix titles and now working on the Final Fantasy XIII line, has expressed his fondness of the PS3’s capabilities. In a recent interview with Dengeki Playstation Magazine, Nomura stated (as translated by qj.net) “It's not just about how pretty the graphics are but more of how much limited amount of movement we can put in one go and how big our imagination and ideas are. The PS3 is the machine that is closest to being able to express our imagination”.
Further in the interview, Nomura also states how the team behind Final Fantasy XIII series has been together since Final Fantasy VII and feel comfortable enough to experiment with the gameplay, wanting to take the gameplay of upcoming Final Fantasy titles in a new direction, stating “The action elements will be high in the game but instead of defeating the enemies from an audience's view, I want to give people the taste of actually being part of that world. The assignment here is whether we can build an FF with the suspense and thrill of Third-Person-Shooting or not. In that sense, the game will be a slightly different type of FF”
What we have seen of the upcoming PS3 Final Fantasy titles in the form of videos and screenshots are also reported to not necessarily represent the final designs, as Nomura is still working on the characters’ appearance and design.

Final Fantasy XII was very different from Final Fantasy X and that's the reason why so many people didn't like XII. It played too much like a MMORPG to me ...
