BioWare Angrily Defends Mass Effect 2's Lack Of Nudity

It seems some people have complained over the lack of nudity in Mass Effect 2, and BioWare aren't too happy with that.
In a rather abrupt response, they explained exactly why there is no explicit sex and/or nudity in their game...

"People who claim to be old enough and mature enough to handle sex and nudity in a game seem to believe that any lack of sex and nudity in the game is a sign of self-censorship," said BioWare's Stanley Woo. "They generally don't believe that a game can be called 'mature' without explicit sex and/or nudity."

"Let me tell you, folks, that as a developer full of mature individuals, we are also free to not have explicit sex and/or nudity in our games, no matter what you, Fox News, the government, or Bunky the Wonder Clown has to say about it. We have never considered it a 'problem,' it is simply a choice we have made and we have every right to make that choice."

    According to this article (I wouldn't know, I don't own it) the scenes are still in there, just not as vivid, so I don't see that as a big deal. I could understand being a little angry though if the implication is Bioware did this to avoid controversy, I wouldn't put that past them.

    Thumbs up to Bioware, hell I would call ME2 mature just for what happens towards the end of the game...usually I don't wince at such things in Horror movies and such but damn, these days got me when I completed the game, so kudos.

    And indeed Bale, the scenes are there but it is ironic that a sequel to the game gets entirely the opposite reaction than its predecessor did.

    ME1 was nailed into the ground and scrutinised because it showed 5 seconds of blue ass. Now people are begging for more?

    Believe me, if people are wanting that kind of thing, they shouldn't be playing games but instead searching the Internet...if that's what floats their boat

    i dont care about the lack of nudity in ME2, but i am very upset with the relationship a male shepard has with tali. i dont want to spoil anything but any one who went that route understands.

      Is it because we couldn't see her face? No way I would want to see her face anytime soon. I like liking Tali for her personality. Tali is an amazing character and shows just how great Bioware's capability with character development is. Though they'd probably save that for the third game anyways judging by how the quarians have been acting lately.

      And people are upset by the lack of nudity in ME2?
      Since when is ME2 a porno?

      I'm sure this is because Grunt didn't take off his suit and shaked his booty.

        You didnt want to see her face?!? Well after all the work i put in with her, all i wanted was to see what she looked like, is that too much to ask? That was BS the way they handled that. Any way ME2 is amazing and everyone should play it. And whoever gets upset about the lack of nudity in a video game is a sad human being.

          No not really, seeing her face would sort of ...ruin it for me.

          people are never satisfied, either we hate it, love it, to ugly, to cute, not alien enough, different than we had hoped. I just don't want that.

          Kind of like Master Chief taking off his helmet, only to a lesser extent.

    I just hope Bioware wasn't forced into not including nudity in ME2 because of all the idiots who complained about the 3-seconds of side-ass shown in ME1.

        There is actually a game that almost seems like it was designed for "practicing with yourself." The bunny game where you have shoot them with the hose and you have to "pump the hose" by moving the controller up and down for as long as you can. People are just too obsessed with sex these days. Blame the media.

        It seems to fit her criteria.

        I still can't believe Grunt isn't a romance option. We had sex with a bird, lizard, neurotic suit wearing alien, and a serial killer with space aids.

    Games are meant to played and to have fun with, if I wanted to see some boobs I'd use the internet or get laid, not play a *bleep*ing game.

    I think its funny that a game designer who designs a mediocre 3rd person only game thats half rpg half fps where you shoot people in the head with a rifle blames fox news for some of the people who played their crappy game not getting nudity in the "sex" scenes. If you are going to put sex scenes in a game you expect to see nudity. If you are that adamant about not including nudity why include sex scene's at all? why not go the romance route without any cut scenes of your character in bed with another character? Your character does not ever profess their love for their "paramour" which leads me to believe that they went the route they did to tantalize the player into believing they were going to see digiporn. They made a conscious choice to go halfway to porn and then blame fox news and the government for not going all the way? STFU bioware! stop blaming others for your choices. Go play God of War 2 and you'll get to literally control your character during sex with an actual naked woman (or 2 in some cases). It's still rated M and millions of people played it and If I recall it won game of the year. Next time if you want to do romance do romance not half assed sex cut scenes.

      You know what FPS stands for, right? You took away the FP part leaving only a third of what makes it FPS, so how can it be half FPS?

      Oh, and you clearly don't know what you're talking about. Played ME1? Yeah, they included nude 'digiporn' sex scenes, enough to make people up in arms about it (or in gamers cases down in hand ). They didn't include it here because they didn't want to and all of a sudden they're massive *bleep* teases?

      No point reasoning with you though, right?     GoW2 is a great game but actual naked women? Not quite actual...
