Today, BioWare announced new DLC to be released tomorrow, and it's free..as long as you have access to the Cerberus Network.

The new DLC consists of the new "Cerberus Armor" and "Eviscerator Shotgun". May not be much, but free content is free!

On Tuesday February 09 2010 Mass Effect 2 fans will be able to get the new Cerberus Assault Armor and M-22a Eviscerator Shotgun DLC fof free through the Cerberus network. It should be available for all fans, both on PC and Xbox 360 at 12:00pm Mountain Standard Time.

Cerberus Assault Armor
Cerberus assault armor is designed for shock troops, turn the tide of battle against creatures or forces that would decimate normal soldiers.
Increases heavy weapon ammo capacity by +10%
Increases shields by +10%
Increases health by +10%

M-22a Eviscerator Shotgun
The M-22a Eviscerator Shotgun is a longer-range shotgun with armor-piercing loads. This design also violates several intergalactic weapons treaties, so the M-22a is not distributed to militaries.

This attitude baffles me. As great as free stuff is, and as exciting as receiving it can be, I would have thought if they can release it this soon then they could have just put it in the game. Surely those gamers who don't have the ability to get DLC shouldn't be locked out of a full game experience because developers prefer to release data over a period of time to keep people interested.

Don't get me wrong, clever thinking by the devs, and I would never turn down free stuff, but surely the big deal that gets made about a lot of free DLC lately is a little over the top. Not too mention if gaming heads down this path then gaming becomes that little bit more expensive as gamers are all but forced to acquire net access for their consoles and pay extra for the privilege of using it. If this trend continues we may even get to a point where games are released missing significant portions of what is the true game in it's entirety. Gamers with limited funds should watch this trend with a bit of worry I reckon.

Do you not realize the time it takes to make and distribute something like this?

Even without that, it's been two weeks. You would want to wait an extra two weeks for a shotgun and armor?

Do you honestly believe it took two weeks to get this ready for distribution? Honestly I think a lot of people would be more than happy to wait and get everything in the game. Some people won't be able to get the DLCs and for everyone else it's more inconvenient than had it been included straight up.

You've either missed or ignored the main point of my original comment anyway. The crux of it was that this is just another indicator of a possibly worrying path that gaming distribution is starting to head down. This specific example isn't the issue. It's an example of a much larger issue.

The game is in no way, lesser without this content. It's just a couple extra items. They're rewarding people for being part of the cerberus network, not punishing people who aren't.

Nickel and diming is nothing new. I just don't get how you're seeing something like this, where you get a couple of items for buying what is essentially a content pack. To a game developer releasing half a game and making you pay for the other half later.

          That's a stretch.

It's a basic example. ME2 is also releasing DLC with new party members and plenty of games release DLCs with entire new maps and quests. You can't deny that DLCs are becoming more and more popular. I'm just saying that it could be indicating that in the nearish future gamers will have to have internet access, and the added fee of console net access, to play all developed aspects of games like they have the right to. I disagree with that being ok.

Another reason to get Live. Another reason to bash my friend over the head so I can get my 360 back.

Where are my hammerhead missions? Hell bring back the mako. Ain't nothing wrong with that thing. I LOVED how it handled. It was so unique and really not difficult to control if you had any semblance of an ability to adjust to the circumstances. The way the Mako moved was such a welcome departure from vehicles in every other game. God I loved that crazy thing.

My sister is playing through Mass Effect 1 now and she too loves the Mako. I thought out of all the poorly skilled game players she, for one, would hate it. I saw her playing the other day handling that thing like a pro.

      Well...people complained.

I for one liked the elevators. Sure they were slow, but you usually heard some banter or some news... better than watching a screen with the word loading on it.
