Q-Games usually doesn't do sequels. When they release a game and it becomes popular enough they release an encore version, which is seen in Monsters and Eden. But Dylan Cuthbert said that they have so many ideas and really wanted to test their engine, and moving on would seem to be just a waste. So expect to see Shooter 2 before the next original PixelJunk game.

"Normally sequels are just a re-hashing of the ideas in the original," said Cuthbert, "but for PixelJunk Shooter we still have a ton of ideas on the drawing board and the engine has lots of potential we want to use before moving onto our next idea. It would be a waste not to use it to try out more stuff."

The "TO BE CONTINUED" at the end of the original game is also a dead give-away...

Could have been DLC to finish the story, not a whole new game.
