The R 18 + saga continues in South Australia where overly conservative MP Michael Atkinson has claimed that gamers are more dangerous than the local bikie gangs who deal in drug trafficing and extortion. The comments were made after a gamer allegedly slipped a note under Atkinsons door during the night protesting his refusal of a review of the game classification system in Australia. Not only has Atkinson villified all gamers for seemingly no reason he has once again displayed his backward thinking, stone age mindset.

Only one thing really needs to be said at this point: If Mr. Atkinson is more afraid of normal people who use magic and animated weaponry than very real thugs with very real weapons then on what authority can he call us the crazy ones? The fact that people like this can get elected to office in a country like Australia makes me afraid.

SOUTH Australian Attorney-General Michael Atkinson says his family is more at risk from angry video gamers than outlaw motorcycle gangs.

Mr Atkinson revealed in an interview aired last night that a "threatening note from a gamer" was placed under his door early one morning.

"I feel that my family and I are more at risk from gamers than we are from the outlaw motorcycle gangs who also hate me and are running a candidate against me," he said on ABC TV's Good Game.

"The outlaw motorcycle gangs haven't been hanging around my doorstop at 2am. A gamer has."

Mr Atkinson was involved in introducing tough new laws to outlaw bikie gangs in South Australia last decade.

At the time he said politicians and public officials had to put themselves "on the line" to take the gangs on.

The comment on Good Game is the latest volley in a war of words between Mr Atkinson and people who support the introduction of an R18+ rating for video games.

Australia is the only Western country without an adult rating for games. Mr Atkinson has been the most vocal opponent of introducing one and has the power to veto changes to the classification system.

Industry groups say an adult rating would help parents make better decisions about which games are appropriate for children, but Mr Atkinson disagrees. He has previously referred to the campaign as akin to saying: "Give us more cruel sex and extreme violence!"

I can't imagine the bikies would respond well to "You know that Michael Atkinson thinks a bunch of geeks who play video games are more dangerous than you guys, right?"

Ya know I'll be sad if Atkinson ever goes the way of Jack Thompson, these stories never cease to amuse me.

Every time he opens his mouth he makes himself look more of a moron, bless his heart. Digging his own grave.

Haha. In an article posted last November, I said this:

    quote
Bring the issue to A Current Affair's attention, and we'll have hundreds of armed people at Atkinson's door within hours.

Us Aussies might not have guns, but we have broken alcohol bottles, cricket bats, and a nation of people who are willing to turn vigilante at the drop of a hat.
    ...Turns out I was right!

    Hooray for vigilantes?

The bikies already had that covered though. We should have just got them on the case.

The gamers need to turn the focus of attention away from 'Cruel Michael Atkinson, Baaaaawww' to 'Look at the things he says, he's a moron.' That'd get more public sympathy I bet, anything to get rid of this halfwit.

Problem being that he is an Attorney-General and gets far more press coverage to say what he wants. This story shows perfectly how he can take something that would happen quite a lot, and really isn't anything serious or out there, and make it into something so outlandishly over the top with little press focus on the truth.
