A BBC article discussing the fact that the Wii has sold 270,974 units while the PS3 has only sold 41,628, barely a sixth of that amount. As well as discussing the Wii outselling the PS3 in Japan also includes quotes from Phil Harrison, PlayStation's head of worldwide studios.
Nintendo's Wii console outsold Sony's PlayStation 3 in Japan last month by six to one, says research.
Nintendo sold 270,974 Wii consoles last month while Sony sold 41,628 PS3s, according to Enterbrain, a Japanese publisher that tracks console sales.

Wii > PS3
But yeah it's the pricing that is the biggest factor, and that the Wii's adverts on TV will appeal to audiences of gamers never previously into gaming. But yeah, go Wii!
Still, it brings something new to the table. It's no surprise that it's beating the PS3...there's more consoles available and it's much cheaper.
I'd buy a 360...but the fees and overpriced downloadables feel like they're gonna screw deeper into my wallet faster than the PS3 would.
So...I'm sticking with my PS3 where online is free (and *bleep*ing awesome service to boot), and where a game can actually last more than 4 months. Yes, that means Resistance or maybe even MotorStorm...and No I don't regret ever spending money on it...IN FACT, I'm thinking of buying myself a 60 GB console for myself...so my brother can stay with the 20 GB.
Never mind.
Everyone has personal tastes and reasons they bought their respective consoles, many of which most other people simply don't understand, not even mentioning the fact that most of us have had this argument in every other "Wii>PS3" or "PS3 is God's gift to gaming" post on this site and on the forums.
But about the article, nice news for Nintendo indeed. Hopefully the Wii will continue to sell at such an exceptional rate and continue to look like a now dominant figure in the gaming industry.
They've made a great console at a cheap price with games that appeal to general audiences, so it's no surprise that it's doing so well. Kudos to them, I say!
The DS is also slaughtering the PSP
Anyways, this isn't about the handheld war
Besides, it's the same issue, people don't wanna pay that much. I can buy 3 Wiis for my family if I wanted to, but I doubt my parents would ever use it, and my bro would prefer the PS3 just because it has Vegas. Also...quality in games sometimes aren't to par with what I play on the PS3 as well.
A nice example of quality is like comparing Tony Hawk's Project 8 to Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam, more bang for your buck.
The PSP has the same problem with sales, it's too expensive for it's own good. But then again, PSP is known for having console sized games for a nice experience when you're on a bus ride and whatnot.
I'm sure if the PS3 was cheap and the Wii was expensive, it would be the other way around. Simply put, the PS3 is a technological marvel with new-age graphics, amazing gameplay and groundbreaking titles that are for serious gamers while the Wii is a Gamecube with a fancy new controller for kids. Of course the Wii is outselling, simply put, because there are less kids interested in serious games and even less parents willing to shell out the cash.
I'm not saying the PS3 is better, I'm saying this article sucks balls because you JUST CAN'T COMPARE THE TWO SYSTEMS.
Oh, and if I buy a Wii, which I want to badly, it wont be because of the price, it will be because of the controller and how much fun it makes the games.
