Tamara Broome, 31, was arrested last week after allegedly attempting to abduct a 17 year player after they forged a relationship through the hit MMO, World of Warcraft.

As Ms. Broome says it, the parents of the boy actually set up the meeting but when she arrived in North Carolina she was arrested and is now in jail with a 2 million dollar bond with the possibility of up to two years in jail if found guilty.

An Australian woman who forged a relationship with a younger World of Warcraft player has been arrested in the US as she attempted to meet with the chap and his family.

31-year-old Tamara Broome had met the 17-year-old in Azeroth when he was a year younger, and News.com.au - who we're nicking all this off, obviously - claimed that he had previously attempted to fly over there, and that they aimed to get married.

Wow, she faces 2 years in prison if she is found guilty just for trying to meet the kid? That's stupid. If his parents set up the meeting and were there with their kid then what's the big deal?

    In jail for what charge?!

The parents ALLOWED the kid to meet her. And he's 17 years old for *bleep*'s sake.

    Oh wait a sec...

    quote
in the words of her housemate, "they could sort it all out" with the parents. She claims that the teenager's folks even arranged the trip.
There's no actual evidence that the parents set up the meeting. Which can explain why she was arrested before she even got to the boy in the first place.

Well SeekerX don't you find it odd the police knew exactly where to pick her up?

It's not like she molested him or something. There's no law against meeting someone you met on the internet. I guess it's because he's a minor.

I'm guessing the parents pressed charges because the whole thing was going on without their permission. But that case really shouldn't hold, he's only a minor by the Law's standards, I find it hard to believe he's some sort of virgin, innocent dude.

    Seeker X, lol, I'm sure there will be people saying..."He is a WoW player...of course he is a virgin!" ;;

But did she even know his age? I would assume so though...

Too bad for her *shrugs shoulders*

Does seem really harsh that, but hey that's what you get for meddling around on the internet, trying to meet up with people you don't actually properly know.

Is a bit sick too, 31 and 17 is too big a gap.

I knew that some people took gaming to far, but Geez ^^ !
17 and 31 is a huge gap as well - Its nearly like going out with your own Mother

It makes you think though, what on earth would possess you do try and do something like this all because of WoW ??

Well, I am Steely Phil drove two thousand miles for me. I flew to America. People do crazy things, in the words of Meg, when they're in love.

Well, you know, if people weren't such losers that they need to forge relationships over things like games and the internet, then this wouldn't have happened. Not that hard to meet someone you ACTUALLY could get to know, not over a chat room etc.

Whoa whoa whoa. Easy on the online relationship bashing, I can think of many reasons why it's better to get with someone online than in person, and in no way is this wrong or degrading or stupid in any way.
Hell they were going to meet anyways, so I say good for them.

Why would someone go thousands of miles to meet someone who they met online? Why not just see if you ever meet otherwise?

Did it ever occur to anyone that friendships or relationships that start over the internet aren't always god awful or *bleep*ed up or the like? I mean, shit.

Well, this I certainly hold my head away from, seeing as 31 and 17 is too much, especially when pushing legality and shit like that. But say two 31 year olds? By all means, to each their own. Just because they met online doesn't mean shit.

True, Arcaida, the internet basically smallens the world, so it's actually more likely you'll find people you like with a worldwide search. No wonder it happens all the time, and nobody say you haven't done it.
