Dylan Jobe, the director of Warhawk, comments about how much of an impact of freeing up more RAM has on Playstation 3 development in addition to providing an update on the latest status of his next title.

    RAM really does make such a big difference. So much faster than anything else.

    RAM these days is probably more integral than a powerful CPU and GPU. The way development processes are a modern developer can get a powerhouse game out of any CPU/GPU but with only 512Mb RAM that game is going to run like shit. Sony made a mistake in this regard I know XDR RAM is fast and that helps but considering they were already making a loss they could have made it 1Gb and the PS3 now would be unstoppable.

      It's hard to call it a mistake... unfortunately you gotta think about where Sony was at with the PS3. Already selling at a huge loss out of the gate. Then you have to factor in 512mbs of more RAM for every single PS3, that shit adds up.

      I'm sure they sat around for a long long while to decide this. What's more impressive is how developers like Naughty Dog were able to deliver such incredible visuals with such consistent framerates.
