In a recent interview for UGDB the Game Director of God of War III Stig Asmussen said: "I don't know is we are even close to 50% of PlayStation 3's power at this point."
In another question related to what parts of the game were ripped off and are not in the final version, Stig is talking for the first time ever for character named Exion, Cyclops as nearly big as titans, and one huge titan encounter that can come in the form of DLC. Stig is also talking for his dream project, who might play Kratos in God of War movie, what experiments the studio has tried with the save system, what to expect form the upcoming six-issue comic book, and when we should meet Kratos' brother.

I bet Duke Nukem: Forever was using 100% of the PS3's power but then it imploded due to the sheer awesomeness that could not be contained in one simple black box of technology...

I actually laughed out loud at this...
My question is why did they not use 100% and how do they know that they used 50%

Because at times excess isn't a good thing, they used as much power as they needed to create the game they wanted make. I mean I am sure they could have thrown more textures in and more enemies on screen at once, but that could have easily broken the pacing of the fights. Most developers know how much CPU and GPU processing is being used at any one time as debug kits have all this information displayed on screen as the game is running.

It was one of those stupid 'no-shit sir' jokes that you can't help but laugh for any number of reasons.

I suppose because 100% of everything the PS3 is capable of is a bit overkill and would take to long.

yeah, we get it, the ps3 is a *bleep*ing perpetual motion device.

Anyone else getting really sick of companies saying this every time they release a new game on the PS3?

      Daweii Mar 12, 10
No because the number gets lower each time they say it and the product gets more advanced, I find it really quite humorous.

Hm, got a good point. It has been lowering, you'd think it'd higher the more advanced a game got, basically showing that all this is just some PR bullcrap then?

It isn't really PR bullcrap as they most likely are only using 50%, but it merely shows putting a figure like that on a console is pointless. That figure merely denotes developer skill, if they are doing things that allow the console to do better things with less power then they are doing a good job. So yes the PS3 is probably using 50% though that doesn't mean another developer won't max the PS3 100% with sloppy coding, it all comes down to the developer with that figure.

This just in! Gran Turismo 5 uses -29% of the PS3's power!

The sad part is that people eat this shit right up. Anyone with even the slightest knowledge of how to make a game knows that putting a percentage on how much of a certain technology you're using is *bleep*ing retarded.

Before I forget, I wanted to clarify... When I say everyone I mean even "Game Director of God of War III Stig Asmussen" knows it's *bleep*ing retarded. He just also knows people eat this shit up.

Not trying to sound like a fanboy but I'm pretty sure only Sony give a shit about this.

Yes, you have superior hardware. That's why your console was (and still kind of is over here) so *bleep*ing expensive. It's also why you're losing money on each PS3.

You have good games...but stop trying to prove it, eh?

Using a percentage of a console does not in any way correlate to good games, and I don't think that was the intention of this article either.

The intention is this, "you think God of War III and Uncharted 2 look incredible? Just wait a couple years and games will look even better on the PS3 still. "
